When I first heard about this imbalance a few years back, I thought, "Well, there's a war in China's future."
My guess is that as wives become a more scarce commodity that the economic incentives for women from even poorer countries (mostly Asian such as Vietnam) to move there will become powerful. I think the result here is just a more diverse China.
