    Job market shows big improvement.

So fewer people were laid off is a big improvement? Is that similar to when the government department says their budget was cut when their budget was more than the previous year but less than what they wanted?

The unemployment rate improved to 10% in the month. Economists had forecast it would remain at the 10.2% level reached in October, which had been a 26-year high.
So the good news is twofold: the unemployment rate dropped and jobless claims were much fewer than projected.
Everything in life is an approximation.

But how many jobs were saved?

Same agency putting out both numbers?
