  • Uganda Set to Pass Gay Execution Law

    http://www.speroforum.com/site/artic...likely+to+pass

If you're gay, have AIDS, and get caught having gay sex, if this law passes in Uganda, you could be hanged.

    Wow. Just, wow.

Option of the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality”, which includes relations with a minor or a disabled person; repeated homosexual acts; and if the offender (initiator of the act) has HIV, or uses drugs or alcohol to procure sex.
When you take into account the millions upon millions of African that have died of AIDS, I can understand the sentiment behind this proposed bill. I'm unaware of any legislation passed or proposed to punish heterosexual transmission of AIDS, and that is certainly a (the?) major source of the disease spreading in Africa.

At least when it comes to AIDS, it's one less person to spread the disease.

A new low, even by exUte standards.

Fixed it for you since you forgot the TIC smiley.

Wow. More cruelty in the name of religion. I don't blame religion, btw. I blame the misguided tendencies of man.

In the late 80s or early 90s, there was a comedian (want to say Eddie Murphy, but likely not him) who did a bit on AIDS. He jokingly suggested that we put all gays on an island and that would solve the AIDS epidemic. Does anyone remember this bit? I remember it being very over the top (obviously).

However, fast forward to today, with all we know about AIDS and homosexuality (compared to back in the late 80s) and now we have an official National edict that seems far more cruel and over the top than what was jokingly suggested by the comedian. In fact, it would actually be better to be placed on an island that to be executed, put in prison for life, or be imprisoned for not informing on homosexuals.

I guess I disagree in that I don't see the "spirit" of the proposal. Homosexuality is not the problem in the AIDS debate. It is no longer a gay disease. Safe sex and education is the answer. Not executions and witch hunts.

If Uganda passes this, I wonder how long before the UN sanctions?

ExUte and Indy, twin sons of different mothers, show their true colors. Now I've seen it all. Indy and exUte, our most orthodox religious people here, joining in defense of Ugandan barbarism.

Does anybody know, is Uganda putting heterosexuals with HIV/AIDS who have sex to death?

Of course, there is no real civil liberties in Uganda. It will only take an accuastion to get somebody hanged. This is only a small step removed from the Nazis "cleansing" Germany of all the seriously ill and mentally infirm. "for the greater good." Indy's and ex's rationale would support this as well.

Welcome to Africa. And by "welcome to Africa," I mean "Welcome to a massive continent still trying to recover from the effects of European colonization and the cluster*** that resulted after the white guys left."

Anyone who expects most African nations to be as "enlightened" as we are on subjects like this is naive. When basic survival is a struggle and countries could cease to exist in a few years, things are much different than they are in the good ol' USA.

Gays have AIDS. Gays are not the cause of AIDS.

Similarly, religion is not the cause of these misguided policies. Perhaps the inartful practice of one's religion, but certainly not religion itself.

It is interesting that the Ugandan government is acting in the public interest, using religion as a moral bolster for its reprehensible actions. There is no official religious edict calling for this heinous practice.

Admittedly, it is unfortunate that the local Catholic church has purposefully remained silent on the issue. Speaking of references to Nazi Germany....

I'm not a Maddow fan, and I haven't fact-checked what she's saying, but I'm going to believe that there's a kernel of truth in what she's saying.

IMO there's some racism in Maddow's argument.

"Black Africans can't be held responsible for their own actions... no, it was definitely a white person who told them what to do and they did it. Because they're black."
