No, I have no catfight footage so move along if such was your interest. But I attended a lunch meeting today at which Whitman spoke to us about her campaign for the California governorship. Whitman was the eBay CEO who was a top operative for the Romney, and then the McCain campaigns. Despite having a net worth more than a thousand times my own, she was asking us for money and support. I’ve been leaning toward Tom Campbell but went at the request of a friend.
In short, she knocked it out of the park. I was way more impressed with her at this meeting than I had been over the years from news reports and radio spots. She’s very smart, quick on her feet, and very interesting. I won’t lay out her platform here, but it was well-articulated and was quite appealing.
she responded to several questions and did very well, even if most of them were softballs.
As she was speaking, I was making comparisons to Palin and it grieves me that Palin has a national audience based on next to nothing. Whitman, on the other hand, graduated from Princeton and Harvard (never had to transfer once!) has run multiple companies, and helped take eBay from a $4 Million dollar company to a who knows how many billion dollar enterprise. While her neurosurgeon husband won’t win any dogsled races, her family seems very sharp. Other than looks, I can’t think of a thing that Palin has over Whitman, and yet Palin is the person that was selected to be a heartbeat from the Presidency? Still depressing to think about.
It’s possible I’ll still stick with Campbell, but I’m beginning to tilt toward Whitman. She has the steel spine to stand up to the California legislature (we have a line item veto here in CA) and may help right this ship.
