Utah State Senator Chris Butters statement on gays......

"I don't mind gays, but I don't want them stuffing it in my throat all the time and especially in my kid's face," said Buttars.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

      More fallout from "8"

[quote]Utah State Sen. Chris Buttars doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut.

The West Jordan Republican has added one more log to the fire of controversy surrounding his interview in former Salt Lake City TV reporter Reed Cowan's documentary "8: The Mormon Proposition," which premiered Sunday at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

In the film, Buttars says "Homosexuality will always be a sexual perversion. And you say that around here now and everybody goes nuts. But I don't care. ... They're probably the greatest threat to America going down I know of."

Now, according to this story reported on KTVX, Buttars says he was deceived into making those comments by Cowan and his crew, because Cowan was wearing a BYU t-shirt.

Cowan, in response, released the above photo taken during the interview. That's Cowan on the right, and he's not wearing any BYU blue.

The logic behind Buttars' rationale is jaw-dropping. Is he saying it's OK to talk smack about other groups if you think you're among members of your own church? It's not unlike a white guy who wants to tell a racist joke, but he checks to see if there are any minorities in room first.

Cowan, in a statement issued Monday (the first day of the Utah Legislature's new session), called for Buttars' resignation — and expressed disbelief at Buttars' rationale:
"In the end, whether or not I wore a BYU shirt is a ridiculous and weak defense. Buttars said what he said and all of our communications are a matter of record. Buttars is about hate speech. I always knew he was a bigot. But now I'm saddened to realize he is also a liar."
