I remember when this was all going on I was in law school and my wife and I were driving up to DC every day where I was in school and she was working. The killings were happening all around us. I remember distinctly going to get gas for my vehicle and walking around while it pumped, trying to be cautious not to be a stationary target, and then getting out of there as soon as possible. I wouldn't let my wife go get gas or go to a convenience store at all. This was right after 9/11 as well so people in the DC area were pretty on edge.

In the end, from my perspective, the right thing is being done. Malvo who was the impressionable teenager is probably less culpable and as a consequence will live. Muhammad, on the other hand, will receive the retribution of the people of my state. If there was ever a capital case, this is it.

From my point of view, the answers are Yes and No. But I am against capital punishment generally, and I should put that out there in full disclosure.

This seems quick. I thought death penalty cases were normally dragged out over decades. This took less than 10 years. Did he not exhaust all avenues of appeal?

The death penalty is about retribution. Specific deterrence as well. I am in favor of keeping it as a penalty.

I think asking about the death penalty when you are looking at a case like this is like asking about moderate eating when you ahve been starving for a few weeks.

I am opposed to the death penalty on principle, but it is hard to get worked up about some executions, adn this is one of them.
