I don't think he said we needed more guns, just allow people to carry their guns on an Army base."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

In the end, it was someone who responded with a gun (meeting force with equal force) who was able to bring an end to the bloodshed. Of course it took 15 minutes for someone with a gun to get there...Originally posted by I.J. Reilly View PostThat's the answer, more guns.
The guns are already out there, and if you tell the rational actors that they can't use them, you're only going to be left with the irrational actors using them.

So in this particular case, I guess you could say yes, the answer was indeed, more guns.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View PostIn the end, it was someone who responded with a gun (meeting force with equal force) who was able to bring an end to the bloodshed. I read a report stating that once he was confronted with a drawn handgun the shooter turned his own gun on himself.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostWith that comment, I think I was on your side.
Having said that, did I misunderstand what really ended the bloodshed? Did the shooter not commit suicide?PLesa excuse the tpyos.

And yes, like many other mass shooters, he took his life AFTER being met with deadly force.

I think I read that as well, but I'm not positive. However, it seems in most cases of mass shootings, the gunman turns his weapon on himself when only when the guns are closing in. Whether the shooter kills himself or is taken out by someone else is irrelevant in those cases. The point is it won't end until he is confronted with equal or greater force than he has.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostWith that comment, I think I was on your side.

Bo and Creekster beat me to it. But it is an important point. These mass shooters are clearly delusional and have a picture in their minds of how their shooting will go. Someone standing up and firing back is not a part of the script and they usually kill themselves immediately when that happens. The vast majority of these guys are not interested in a gun battle.
Edit: Case in point is this guy from Oregon a couple years back.
The shooter had an AR and had already killed two people. He jams his rifle and a citizen confronts him with a drawn handgun. The citizen never fired, but when the gunman cleared his jam he promptly put one bullet through his head instead of taking on the handgun.Last edited by Omaha 680; 04-04-2014, 09:58 AM.
