That's quite an accusation. Care to explain?

I dont understand. why are you educated people watching fox or any of these talking head news shows? they simply read stories off the wire and then opine. why do you care what they think? why not just read the same AP stories and form your own conclusions.

I will, but I cannot do it right this second. I'm squeezing this post between the media literacy and telecommunications classes that I teach!

The Fox News Channel receives 3x more viewers than any other cable news network, day or evening. People want their partisan GOP propaganda.

I think this is the reason the left media freaks out so much about FNC. They don't like getting their hind ends handed to them.

Interesting idea. For some reason my computer won't bring up the AP article on the defeat of gay marriage in Maine. I am sure my home one will and I am going to read that article and see if it is presented in an unbias manner.

The AP is far from unbiased.

How about this. It is journalists and pundits nature to think they are "smarter" than the public in large. They have a solemn duty to "inform" the uneducated (those who don't think properly) and guide and direct them.

They don't like Fox being considered journalists because the public may be stupid enough to think that conservative journalists are smart too.

Since I don't trust you or DDD on this subject, I will have to decide for myself.

I agree. And the media not called FNC is upset that more viewers want to hear what FNC has to say.

When I go to the doctor's office I see a lot more copies of People Magazine than I do The New Yorker. Why is that?

I am talking about these ridiculous news shows, not going to foxnews.com and reading a story from the AP (I view the latter as a modern form of reading a newspaper). I don't get why you people bother tuning in to any of the talking heads shows, regardless of network affiliation. What is the point?

Also, why do you want your news in an unbiased manner when you are biased? I find that odd, as well. We all have bias. Why is it so important that you receive unbiased inputs? Where are these unbiased inputs in life? Everything has bias.

I think you are missing the point of the discussion. Of course there is bias. That is unavoidable. But shouldn't there at least be an effort at balance? There was a major shift around 100 years ago in US journalism towards a more independent media that serves the people. It has not been perfect, but the aggregate effect of the movement was positive. Would you prefer a return to 19th-century style journalism where each media outlet is explicitly owned and operated with a specific political or corporate objective?
