200 thousand dollars per job? This is why socialism is a crock.

With the continuing drop in consumer spending, unemployment is going to rise. I doubt the administration beats this drum much. We will hear this initial analysis and then it will go away. Next summer is when things are going to get real hot under the collar and another stimulus plan would not surprise me. I am surprised at the momentum the public option and cap and trade are making so perhaps enough centrist democrats have been convinced that Obama can help them keep their jobs to get another through.

It is gonna be a tough decade or two with the imminent inflation and continuing restructuring of the world economy which will inevitably transport more US wealth abroad, which is probably natural and unnavoidable. In fact if not for living outside our means on credit this probably started happening a decade or so ago.

America is gonna have to choose if it wants a strong defense or stronger social programs. Inertia will always take you to a stronger social state in time. Can we at least get pastries as good as England out of it?

I know. The news the last couple of days has really pissed me off. The recession is over! Cash for clunkers was a success! While I am still looking for a job.

Cash for clunkers sucked as policy. About $25K per incremental auto sold. (Most of the subsidized sales were simply from cars that would have been sold anyway - only about one car in 6 sold was an incremental benefit from what would have been sold by the end of the year without any payout from Barry and Co.) Most of the ~1.75% bump in GDP Dems are patting themselves on the back for creating will show up as a REDUCTION in GDP in the 4th quarter. Gotta love the linear thinking of liberals...
