CNN and CNBC were reporting a poll has Obama at 57% approval rating. I trust Rasmussen, but why the difference. Why isn't CNN and CNBC reporting the Rasmussen poll?

Gallup backs up these numbers, here. Some commentary:

Looks pretty bad:

In fact, the 9-point drop in the most recent quarter is the largest Gallup has ever measured for an elected president between the second and third quarters of his term, dating back to 1953. One president who was not elected to his first term — Harry Truman — had a 13-point drop between his second and third quarters in office in 1945 and 1946…

More generally, Obama’s 9-point slide between quarters ranks as one of the steepest for a president at any point in his first year in office. The highest is Truman’s 19-point drop between his third and fourth quarters, followed by a 15-point drop for Gerald Ford between his first and second quarters. The largest for an elected president in his first year is Bill Clinton’s 11-point slide between his first and second quarters.

These polls thrill me. Obama won't listen to those of us on the left. Something has got to light a fire under his ass, and hopefully the fear of losing in the midterm will do just the thing.

I'm flattered that you think I look like the greatest (and handsomest) owner in the history of professional sports, but that's not me.

That article sums it up pretty well. If Obama hadn't told us the opposite the whole time, his actions would force us to assume that he was a huge fan of Bush and wants nothing better than to continue his policies (re: the wars; he's way better than Bush in certain areas, most notably for me on science funding).

Like Robin says, I hope this inspires him to pull his head out of his ass.

This was completely predicable though wasn't it? The entire Obama persona was built on "hope" and "vision" rather than reality or real accomplishments or reasonable plans. Even liberals have to be able to see this. There was no where to go but down.

We will see when we have the Vg. and N.J. elections. Of course both parties and the media will spin whatever happens.

However, if Dems win both, Obama is OK. and the repubs. are in the trouble the liberal pundits claim they are. If the repubs win Vg. and Corzine win N.J slight edge to the repubs, but not a real big deal.

If the repubs win both, then Obama is in trouble and it isn't because his liberal buddies are mad at him.

Obama's issues concerning plummetting popularity numbers have little to do with any policies he is following of George Bush. The cause is threefold: 1.) His "unsustainable" popularity that was the result of not being George Bush and being the first African-American President. It was the Rock-Star status and eventually whatever policies he would enact would drive away many who were caught up in the moment. 2.) He promised the world at a time that nobody could deliver much. This is a pretty bad economic slump methinks and the fact is that for many famalies things are not likely to improve for quite some time. 3.) The balance of power is not reflective of the genuine state of the American polity. The rabid left realizes this and is making a genuine effort to accomplish a goal of theirs or two while the opportunity is theirs. The President is going to take a popularity hit as a consequence.

I don't think most Americans are all that dialed in on the wars right now. They are dialed in on their pocketbooks, retirement funds and the growing deficit.
