Well, it didn't turn out like I wanted it to. I started out pretty strong, knowing that I didn't have as much training as I would like, I was running at about a 10:45 pace or so and felt great up until about mile 10 when I make a detour for the bushed . After I was done with my business, I went to run again and my hip muscles had tightened up and it was pretty sore to run, but I kept going, having to take short walk breaks every few minutes. At mile 12, both calves started cramping up and would continue off and on for the rest of the run. The, around mile 16, as I started running again after walking for a minute, I pulled/strained my hamstring which was painful to the point that I could not even jog faster than about a 13:00 pave and even then, it hurt enough that I couldn't run more than a quarter mile or so before I had to stop and walk. I pushed it until about mile 20, which ended up being at the 4:39 mark of the race that it was so painful that I couldn't even jog on it. So, looking at the prospect of painfully limping the last 6.2 miles in probably 2 hours and running out of lower body parts to injure, I jumped on the meat wagon and called it a day. Even though I am in a lot of pain right now and I'm pretty disappointed that I was not able to finish, I still had a good time and am glad I did it. After I recover a bit, I am going to hit the gym more to work on my leg strength and core strength and slowly build up my base miles to get ready for the SLC Marathon next April.

I'll let Cowboy and Seachicken (who i looked for but never did see at the starting line) give their own reports, but I will congratulate Cowboy for beating Seachicken by less than a minute.

No shame in running 20 miles. Nice job.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Good job. Call it a training run and look to next spring. I looked for you at the start, but it was a zoo up there. Hope you heal quickly.

Thanks, I stayed in the tent until about 5 minutes before the start, then took my place near the back of the pack.

I'm considering running the Phoenix Rock n Roll Marathon January 17th, we'll see how that goes though. If not, it will be Salt Lake in April.
