No, this isn't about what you'd think. Apparently there's a fun race series that held an event Saturday in Denver. My daughter, getting back at it after the birth of her third, participated. It's only a 5K, and the women wear short skirts and start ahead of the men. Then the men take off after them. I believe pride is their only reward for overtaking the women, and many do not. The race began with The Beastie Boys' "Girls" blaring over the loudspeakers.

My daughter averaged just over 8 minutes a mile, which isn't bad after a long layoff. She's the one in the middle, smiling at her photographer/husband. Do they have these elsewhere in the country? There's a vague chauvinistic touch to this, of which I approve.

How much of a head start do the women get? I love that your daughter can smile that big running 8 minute miles. Impressive.

Kristin Armstong (Lance's ex) did a piece in Runners World a year or two about the running skirt phenomenom. On page two of the article there is a link to the skirt chasing series.

My wife is a skirt runner and has converted a couple of her friends over to it. I'm sure she would do one of these races if they were near here.

Here's a link to the race sponsor, including a list of other races. And my daughter said her average was closer to 9 than 8, but that she had to go slow the first quarter mile or so, and I rounded down accordingly.

A three minute head start isn't much for slow runners like me. But I love the look of those running skirts. That would be a fun race to do. Of course, it would be humiliating doing it with the CUF running crowd. I'd be coughing up dust.

Do you think the woman on the far left would be horrified to know there's a picture of her looking like she's picking her nose floating around the net?

"IT WASN'T A PICK! THERE WAS NO PICK!"

I remember that. They devoted 2 or 3 articles to running skirts, and debated the pros and cons. That's when I realized that Runner's World was officially out of ideas.

After seeing several running skirts in Hood to Coast, I'm a fan of the trend.
