  • High-Calorie Nutrition

I thought I had room to slack off on stuffing my face when I gained a few pounds on my week+ off. I erred in that judgment and would probably feel better if I gained some weight back. (For those that met me in Tahoe, I'm not deluded into thinking I'm uber-thin, but I just feel better day-to-day with a little fat on me.)

Can I get some suggestions for some high-quality calories? A coworker suggested I pick up some avocados on my way home from work today to add to sandwiches and salads. I'll go back to strawberry shakes every evening, but it typically takes me a few days to finish one off so I'm not sure how effective that'll be. Bacon where bacon's appropriate... Any others? (If anyone suggests Ensure, you will be dead to me. )

Lucky Charms and pop tarts. What they lack in proper nbutrition they make up for in how quickly they make you gain weight. Plus, they're magically delciious.
    PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I'd rather waste away to nothing than eat pop-tarts. Marshmallow Mateys are already a staple of my diet. (Usually breakfast #2.)

      Thank you for the suggestions.

Since you didnt care for my first two suggestions (and you have obviously never had a frosted cherry pop tart while watching the sun rise over a high sierra lake; that's right, i use them for backpacking food and they taste GOOD), I will add avocados and cashews are high fat foods that are reasonably good for you. Macadamia nuts too.

but if you are in a hurry, try lucky charms, I tell you.
        PLesa excuse the tpyos.

          Nutella by the spoonful.

Try to include more fat with your carbs, and keep your fiber intake to the minimum RDA. If you go all carbs or all fat, you'll feel bloated and gross, but combining the two will give you calorie dense input that releases slowly.

Also, since I'm sure you eat beef pretty much exclusively as your protein source, try for the higher fat cuts. Eat a Ribeye instead of New York Strip, or grill a burger instead of a sirloin.

Finally, my rule is that if it is made with flour, it tastes better with butter. I even butter my chocolate brownies (try it sometime.)

I gagged when I read this, but I'll use it as my guide in finding creative places to add butter.

Thanks for the tips. I hadn't thought about the fat/carb/fiber thing so I'll give it a go. In return, I will truthfully tell you, I am eating beef almost exclusively right now.

I've been eating tons of this stuff while I'm sitting on my butt at night. It's really good if you put it out in the sun and the chocolate chips melt and it becomes a giant hunk of chocolate, peanut butter and almond goodness.

Definitely avocados. They are my favorite food. I could eat one for breakfast lunch and dinner if I were rich and skinny. And I'd go nuts on nuts. Macadamias, pistachios, almonds, cashews... I'd be eating those by the handful.

Oh, and forget Lucky Charms. Go for granola. It's loaded with fat and tastes better (I won't touch the stuff, but unfortunately, I don't have the problem you do.) I'd bet it'd taste even better with half and half instead of skim milk.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Some foods that pack calories without much in the way of bad fats (but some have sugar):

                    avocados
                    granola
                    nuts
                    Some cheeses
                    eggs
                    milk
                    pasta/rice
yogurt (get the fruit on the bottom kind)

Don't forget Peanut Butter.....nectar from heaven. If you sliced an angel's vein, peanut butter would come oozing out all over the place. And instead of rushing to help the angel, I would jump down there with 2 slices of wheat bread and make a tasty sandwich. Sorry, angel! And since nobody is looking right now, let's see if you are carrying a wallet.......

take two slices of whole wheat bread. Spread four tb skippy natural pb on one slice, two tb organic honey on the other. smash them together, butter the outsides, then grill each side for two minutes.

It's ambrosia and packs about 200 calories per bite.

That's what you get for sniping, Babs. You can't pop in for 30 seconds at a time and expect everything to flow naturally!

Almond butter packs twice the (monounsaturated) fat of peanuts, and the taste is a nice change of pace. Just eat it with a spoon while you're watching TV. In fact, you can mix it with your favorite jam or jelly (I recommend homemade apricot) and spoon it up that way. I did this once, long ago, and it was a great decadent indulgence. Plus, it'll put weight on you.

                              It's not sniping. It's more like hit-and-run.
