so RC, answer me this: I commute on my touring frame and I am running 700x37 on that; and they are conti 37s, meaning they are probabyl closer to 40s. So do they couynt as a moutnain bike or a road bike in your split ratio?PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I would definitely go mountain bike with that. My guess is that bike weighs more then most mt bikes. For what it's worth I voted 4:1 even though I bike because I would rather ride 50 then run one so a 4:1 split seems very generous.Originally posted by creekster View Postso RC, answer me this: I commute on my touring frame and I am running 700x37 on that; and they are conti 37s, meaning they are probabyl closer to 40s. I have no idea what the ratio should be, but RC Vikings seems like a smart guy, so I voted the same way he did.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostI would definitely go mountain bike with that. I voted 4:1, 3:1, but I don't think we're going to be able to come any real consensus. I go on some mtb rides where we work hard and cover 6 miles in an hour, and I've been on some beastly road rides where we cover 4-5 miles in an hour, all straight up.
But overall, I think 3:1 or 4:1 are pretty close for a roadie. If you consider the "epic" ride for a casual roadie is 100 miles and an epic run for a runner is 26.2 miles, your 4:1 is a pretty good days work either way.
The mountain bike ratio would probably realistically be closer to a 2:1 if you ride mostly trails. The only way it is a 2:1 is if you are riding a mtn bike on the road or a flat trail or parkway.
