Where do walkers fall into this equation. I generally walk 3 days a week and walk/run 4 days a week, 6-8 miles per day.

I may be small, but I'm slow.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

Teams
I read a little into some of the comments to try to figure out how the teams are populated at this point. If I misinterpreted and you wanted to be on another team, let me know.
Teams to date:
Runners
cowboy
nikuman
TDB
ERCougar
Robin
Faith
Sea Chicken
happyone
Cyclists
BBB
creekster
Babs
RC Vikings
The Borg
bluegoose
Surfah, did you choose yet?
Oh, and cyclists, the teams are still a little uneven. Does anyone have blackmail photos on Archaea you can use to get him to sign up for this? (I'd actually be genuinely sad if he missed out on this challenge.)

I will ask arch again, but anyone that knows hi should ask. Also, steelblue? You have to be a cyclist here. my firend. I will try to do a little more recruiting. I think we whould put PAC on the cycling team; he will not return until tromorrow, but he is defintiely a cyclist.Originally posted by beelzebabette View PostI read a little into some of the comments to try to figure out how the teams are populated at this point. Definitely. I've been on a ride with mtnbiker and Lewboski...they're cyclists for sure! (come on guys...don't let me down!)"Newton's First Law of Motion: ...things at rest tend to stay at rest. Things in motion, tend to stay in motion...."
Hmm... Good motivation for me to remain active I guess.

JL has to select his own team. I won't do it for him. Updates:Originally posted by bluegoose View PostWhat about mtnbiker? Does he check this forum? Jeff Lebowski? big Piney? (it sounds like Piney may be headed out of town this week, but I think we can safely put him on the cycling squad without too much offense taken).
Runners
Gidget
marsupial
ewth8tr
Cyclists
PAC
Steelblue
BigPiney
mtnbiker
tkh9
Coach
I'll tentatively include these people on teams for purposes of planning, but they each have to accept the challenge and their team.

Too complicated. I'm clearly not as smart as y'all.Originally posted by beelzebabette View PostCowboy has kindly agreed to co-sponsor a runner-cyclist distance challenge. Rules are fairly simple, but I'm open to feedback for another day so we don't overlook anything and get this right.
Proposed rules:
1) Each participant self-identifies at the beginning with the bike or run. (I'll even make it a swim--i.e., I want nothing to do with either group--bike, run if anyone wants.)
2) 4:1 ratios either direction. 1/4 mile swimming = 1 mile running = 4 miles cycling. Exception: cowboy wisely pointed out a mile on a mountain bike (trail or road) is not the same as a road bicycle so I would propose 3 miles as the equivalent for anyone riding on a mountain bike tire.
(Again, I'm totally open to feedback--on this point, especially.)
3) Identification is only for team selection. Any activity counts for a participant.
4) Contest starts 7/15 and runs through the end of August.
Logistics: I thought we could just do a combo post/shared-Google-spreadsheet. Post would be used to verify there were no entry errors on the spreadsheet. Bikers could post pictures of the bike computer as verification, but I don't know what the non-Garmin/Nike+ runners would do, and I don't want to be exclusionary.
Winner: If the number of cyclists who agree to participate at the beginning are even remotely close to the number of runners participating, I'll just go with total mileage. Otherwise, we'll have to agree to something else.
Any interest? Thoughts or concerns? This space is available.

Done, but I have to admit I'm crushed the man with a Lemond avatar thinks of himself as a runner first and cyclist second.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostI'm afraid I'm going with the runners on this one Creek. I have a marathon to train for. BBB will you put me with the runners?

Bluegoose alerted me to the thread.... I'd seen Beezle's original post, didn't like the ratios, so I didn't bother reading more recent posts. As I mentioned to bluegoose in my reply to him, a lunchtime mtn bike ride for me of about 8-12 miles is energy-equivalent to a 25-30 mile road ride, based on the type of riding and routes I do. The time to do each is roughly equivalent, too. So to get credit for only 12 miles of road riding when I do an 8-mile mtn ride just didn't interest me. Gotta get full credit, baby.
Still... if all we're doing is reporting mileage (and the type of mileage), I guess I could do that and let the chips fall where they may.
