  • Distance Challenge - Runners vs Cyclists

Cowboy has kindly agreed to co-sponsor a runner-cyclist distance challenge. Rules are fairly simple, but I'm open to feedback for another day so we don't overlook anything and get this right.

    Proposed rules:

    1) Each participant self-identifies at the beginning with the bike or run. (I'll even make it a swim--i.e., I want nothing to do with either group--bike, run if anyone wants.)

    2) 4:1 ratios either direction. 1/4 mile swimming = 1 mile running = 4 miles cycling. Exception: cowboy wisely pointed out a mile on a mountain bike (trail or road) is not the same as a road bicycle so I would propose 3 miles as the equivalent for anyone riding on a mountain bike tire.

(Again, I'm totally open to feedback--on this point, especially.)

    3) Identification is only for team selection. Any activity counts for a participant.

    4) Contest starts 7/15 and runs through the end of August.

Logistics: I thought we could just do a combo post/shared-Google-spreadsheet. Post would be used to verify there were no entry errors on the spreadsheet. Bikers could post pictures of the bike computer as verification, but I don't know what the non-Garmin/Nike+ runners would do, and I don't want to be exclusionary.

Winner: If the number of cyclists who agree to participate at the beginning are even remotely close to the number of runners participating, I'll just go with total mileage. Otherwise, we'll have to agree to something else.

    Any interest? Thoughts or concerns?

I'd be down to hurt someone's team. Pick me! Pick me!

Actually, I think (given the format) that's cowboy's or my line.

I'm in. But probably not good for much mileage since this is a taper week until my half on Saturday. What if we do both (running and biking)? In other words, I might bike next week to recover.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I am in for the running team. However, fellow teammates, I do warn you that I have decided to only run four days per week instead of five, like I used to do.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I'm in. You cyclists and your little spandex pants can eat my dust.

(Somebody put out an APB for Sea Chicken.)

Now, on the Garmin thing, are the runners supposed to post pics as well?

Lycra. Its lycra not spandex. You're just jealous becasue when you shave your legs no one thinks it is important for your sport. Thye just think you are weird.

I don't think this is a good idea. The Runners might lose and you know how sensitive they are.

                            No, but this is:

That is a shizload of spandex!

Your reaction here just goes to show how touchy you runners are.
