  • Weighted vests

Does anybody have any experience using them? For about a year I've done better than I ever have in attempting to run consistently, but I will still go a week at a time occasionally without running. So while for me, I've done pretty well, I'm still hit and miss depending on what I have going on in my life. My wife and I, however, find the time to walk together nearly everyday in the morning or at night. I'm wondering if throwing a weighted vest on during these walks with the old lady would make for good general exercise and help as I try to get in shape for attempting to keep up with my dog in this hills this fall. Thoughts?

I thought about getting one one time. Seems like it might be useful for a few things. I recently read a Smithsonian article that discussed how easy it is to identify the bones of an individual who wore plate armor because their joints are all effed up. Now weighted vests aren't that heavy, but it made me wonder.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I asked about them. I am a little concerned about the negative effects it could have on my health.

I've never used one but it seems a little safer to just push it a little harder or faster.

          They really suck for swimming.

I have a pair of shorts that have adjustable weights from 5-20 lbs I've never run in them but jump rope and play hoops in them. I'll look at the brand when I get home. Ball sweat is at a maximum when wearing, just FYI.

I see a couple of guys at the gym with them. I've never thought to use one as I am trying to shed the naturally weighted vest I wear daily.

I use them for selected exercises in intervals like lunges, pull-ups or jump-ups. Going for a full on Old Lady Walk in one might be a little slice of Hell. Maybe just throw on some wrestler garbage bags and sweatsuit.

Thank you for this information. The last time I laughed so hard at news so useless was when my freshman-year roommate, upon my returning to our room at the end of the day, excitedly pulled from his shirt pocket a 6" pubic hair which he had saved, very pleased with what he thought was probably a record. Never checked with Guinness, though.
