I got it done yesterday. Other than throwing up all night and a tube up my unit I'm doing great. The thought of this may have made me a little grumpy Sunday.

Good luck. I would suspect the recovery will go well considering the kind of shape you are in.

By the way, make sure they deflate the end of the tube before they pull it out. I heard about a guy who had the sad experience of the nurses forgetting to. He claimed it was extremely painful.

It was bad enough today with the tube deflated, a full tube could really cause some problems.

Just saw this. First few days after surgery are the worst. In general knee replacement is a great option for end stage arthritis with a 1%/year failure rate. The bearing surfaces continue to improve so it is reasonable to expect several years (< 20) of good function. It is a mechanical joint with a finite lifespan. Good luck with the recovery and don't get impatient when things aren't going as quickly as you would like.

I got out skate skiing last Wednesday. My left leg is weak and my balance was off but I was able to ski with no pain and just a little tightness. I only went three miles but it felt good to do something athletic again.

Impressive. You had yours more recently than mine and I just recently ran my first seven miler in the snow. Slowly. Wife had to run back and forth. I could only ride at your stage. I am impressed.

Nothing near so bad. Dual meniscii repair. Femoral head repair and patellar cartilage removal and repair. Much simpler and ii lost a lot of muscle in the short time. I am amazed at RC's quick recovery as mine was child s play compared to his.

Did you have a hip and knee surgery? And by repair do you mean fix what was damaged and have it heal hopefully back to normal or shave off the loose fragments of cartilage?

As I understand it, the doc shave off the ragged parts, holes were poked so that the ligament would fill in hoping it would heall. Nine months I am told is the time frame for healing.

My Rigby born and raised mother has had a total on one knee and a partial on the other. She had them done when she was 42. She hasn't been the same since. She nearly died from a pulmonary embolism after one.

My sister just had both knees replaced on her Christmas break. A week later she went back into the hospital with blood clots in her lungs. Hopefully, they found them all and suppressed any new ones with meds.
