Saw that. Glad is signed up last year. There's little doubt in my mind we are going through quite the running boom.

How many runners will there be? I like to know how many backsides I will be following, at ever increasing distances. We're excited, and a bit apprehensive, about this as it's a run nearly twice the length of any previous effort. We're doing some serious riding at the moment, and we have the CUF Ride August 6, but I'll start training in semi-earnest by late May.

Last year there were 12,363. Not sure this year, but my guess is more.

Wow, that's a bunch. I hope the Disney people know how to handle crowds.

absolutely. Best run race I have ever participated in, including WDW Half.

And the WDW full was easily the best race I've been in, so that's saying something. If there's anything Disney knows it's crowd control and herding people.

              • We're off.

Flying out to SLC first thing in the morning. I am feeling fairly well orthopaedically, but that is mainly due to the fact that I haven't run in almost 2 weeks. I've spent quite a bit of time on the bike and elliptical, but have wanted to rest my shin splints and hope that they are healed by this weekend.

Due to this minor snafu in my training schedule, I've had to moderate my expectations a little bit. I was still able to get 3-20 milers in, but my last one was 4 weeks ago. I plan to start fairly slow to take inventory of how I am feeling. If all feels well by mile 5 or 6, then I will try to pick up the pace a bit.

I still hope for a PR this weekend, but not by much.

                Wish me luck.

Good luck - and keep in mind that I'm targeting whatever time you get for mine in June, so set the bar high.

I am going to die. I just hope I finish in 5 hours.

                      • Good luck all you SLC marathon runners! Looks like if you can convince the rain clouds to hold off for the morning, the weather should be really good - high around 60 for the day.

                        Have a great race!

                        • Is there a way to track you guys like we did for top of Utah?

Im starting to get the marathon bug again. I never thought i would, but its starting to sound fun. Probably a little like having kids...2-3 years is about long enough to where you forget just how much pain is involved. St George 2012.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

My older brother is entering in his first ever on Saturday following a year of significant weight loss and another year of training. He is hoping for the same result. We'll be at or near the finish line to cheer him on or take him to the hospital. He is my hero, as are you all!
