          I am under the Boston qualifier by over 5 minutes, so that gives me a really good shot for next year. It will be close. Last year you had to bear the qualifying time by over 7 minutes to get into the race. So if that holds true this year, then i wouldn't make it. My wife on the other hand qualified by over 33 minutes and was 4th in her age group.

          • The Piney clan is beyond impressive with their running prowess. I like to pat myself on the back when I break 8 minutes training for my next 1/2 marathon. To do that for 26 is mindboggling to me.

            My wife really want to run a full marathon this year. I have heavily resisted. Last week when I ran 10 miles (at a comfortable 9 min pace), I start pondering it for the first time. We are running a 1/2 in Couer D' Alene over Memorial Day. If I survive that, I might consider a full at the end of summer, or early fall. My question is how big of time commitment, am I talking to prepare for a full? I currently run 3 days a week, and ride the peloton 1-2 more. If I'm not too worried about time, but want to run the full 26.2 ( I hate the thought of walking) I'm just not sure I want my Saturdays to be taken up with 4-5 hour runs.

            • I did a run less, run faster plan where I was really only running 3 days a week and cross training the others. Similar to what you are already doing. I did have 4 20 mile runs over the 18 weeks, so that does take up a bunch of time for those saturdays, but overall it is pretty manageable.

                Was this your own plan or one you found? My recovery time is not what it once was, especially with my feet and ankles, so I have been thinking of switching to running 3 or 4 days a week, rather than the 6 that I currently do.

                • Congrats - that's a great time.

                  For those asking about training days - last time I ran a marathon, I only ran 3X a week. I'd been having trouble repeatedly pulling a calf muscle and wanted to put less strain on it. That was my fastest race too (not as fast as Piney - but fast for me.)

                    Piney, I would also be interested in hearing what your plan is. There is obviously a ton of info online. So much so, it can be overwhelming. Who is right and who is wrong?!?

                      What I did was the 3:10 Marathon plan from the book, but was not hitting the times and speeds it was asking for.

                      Here is a slightly easier version than I did. http://www.wu.ece.ufl.edu/marathon%2...20marathon.pdf

                      This only had 1 20 mile run, so that may fit your schedule better than what I did. But overall it is almost the same.
