It's true, he is twice my size, but we manageOriginally posted by RC Vikings View PostI'm praying for Surfah's continued success so that Gidget doesn't get crushed.
Thanks all for the support and praise, I really do appreciate it. Unfortunately, I am not taking before and after photos, but I have gone down two sizes and can fit into clothes I couldn't just 2 months ago, that is enough for me. I do wish I would have sometimes though. Howwever, Surfah IS taking before and after photos . . . . maybe someday he will be brave enough to share with you all.
I am planning on running a 5k on Saturday morning (7a.m.). I ran more than that today but it is my first official run, though I could care less about my time. I just need your tips on what to eat after to keep my energy up. We are going through the temple (at noon) as a family to take Jason's sister through for the first time and I don't want to fall asleep!I am a philosophical Goldilocks, always looking for something neither too big nor too small, neither too hot nor too cold, something jussssst right. Good for you, and congratulations on the weight loss! I will give you one tip, do with it what you will.
If you run distances such as 4-5 miles, or really anything under an hour, water will be perfectly fine to rehydrate with. The reason that I say that is because some people who are trying to lose weight will go run between 3-6 miles, and then sabotage their entire workout by drinking Gatorade and immediately replacing the calories they just burned. I'm not knocking doing runs of 3-6 miles, I do them all the time, you just want to be careful that if you're using running as a way to lose weight, you don't slam a bottle full of sports drink and immediately replace every single calorie you just burned, or possibly more than you burned. If you run over an hour, I would suggest a bit of sports drink afterwards just to replace the sodium you lost.

Good thoughts. I don't think Gidget has drank a calorie in over a month. Me either. I was just remarking last night that I haven't even had a glass of juice in 5 weeks or so.Originally posted by Teenage Dirtbag View PostGood for you, and congratulations on the weight loss! I admire and respect people who successfully take on the challenge and actually get themselves in better shape. In this regard I neither challenge or respect myself.
Sometimes I wish my girl friend would cut me off until I lost 50 pounds. My charm is both a blessing and a curse.

Hey thanks Tim. I, honestly appreciate that. It is really nice to get a compliment from someone other than your husband every now and then. Thank a lot buddy.Originally posted by Tim View PostThis is Gidget we're talking about here. Before: gorgeous. After: gorgeous.

And Teenage Dirtbag - Surfah is right I haven't drank a calorie in a long time, great advice though. I have been tempted, I could live off of orange juice, and that has been tough for me. But I can't justify it when I am in a "losing" phase. Maybe when I am in a "maintenance" phase, I will add some back in to my diet. For now, just oranges will have to do.I am a philosophical Goldilocks, always looking for something neither too big nor too small, neither too hot nor too cold, something jussssst right. 5K results: Total time for race - 32:30
That leaves my pace at 10:27 per mile. Not too great, but good enough for me. I didn't push myself at all because I didn't want to end up walking at all. So I just jogged it. It was good, I felt good and I completed it. My wife did awesome. More than completing the 5k, I am stoked she actually woke up to her own alarm, got dressed and down to the race at 5:45 am. That's more of an accomplishment than anything.
I surprised Gidget at the finish line. I am really happy to see her do this. The changes she has made (though probably not needed) have been inspiring and definitely supportive for my unhealthy fat ass. She keeps me honest and motivated and she is looking fantastic. I love her."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Nice job Gidget and Surfah. Both of you seem to be doing really well.
Gidget, do you feel sore after your 5K? Or do you think it might hit you tomorrow? Or do you feel fine?Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

To keep a promise to you made in a thread weeks ago, I feel I must make some kind of comment about your hot body. Maybe I should just go landpoke and say this thread is worthless without pictures.Get confident, stupid

I feel great. And I know I won't be sore because I have been running anywhere from 3 to 4.5 miles about 4 times a week. So it was just like a normal run for me. But I am glad I completed it. And Surfah is right, it WAS a challenge for me to get up that early but I really wanted to go.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostNice job Gidget and Surfah. What he didn't tell you is that my step-mom bought us matching Linfield College sweatshirts for Christmas last year. We never wear them. We wanted gray ones and she bought us bright red ones. Well this morning when I was getting ready in the dark at 5:30 a.m. I woke up Surfah cuz I was ravaging through my closet to find a certain sweatshirt. I just ended up taking my Linfield one and I wore it down to the race this morning. When he surprised me at the finish line, he was wearing his bright read Linfield sweatshirt too!!(which he never does since it is an XL and kinda looks extra medium on him) and when I went and hugged him I mentioned that we were both wearing it, and he said "We are a team!" It was really sweet, and it made me feel great.
HFN - maybe I will try to find some good before shots 15 pounds ago and then I'll take one now. But Tim is right, I was gorgeous then and now, so does it really matter? . . . . . j/kI am a philosophical Goldilocks, always looking for something neither too big nor too small, neither too hot nor too cold, something jussssst right. P.S. I have only been running a few miles about 4 times week consistently for about 2 or 3 weeks, and last week I didn't get a single run in. I think if I trained for longer I could really improve my time, but I had never ever run any race, ever. I have hated running all my life and have just recently in the last month begun to be interested in it at all. The 5 k was kinda weird for me. To be honest, it wasn't my thing I don't think. It was distracting running with a bunch of strangers. And there isn't a competitive bone in my body so maybe that added to my apathy. But I am glad I did it, and I am glad I can say I didn't walk it. If I keep running maybe I will try another in a while.I am a philosophical Goldilocks, always looking for something neither too big nor too small, neither too hot nor too cold, something jussssst right. Some people like races, others don't. I know quite a few runners who put in 30-40 miles a week and have no interest at all in ever doing a race of any kind. I'm just the opposite. I love getting around all of the other runners.Originally posted by Gidget View PostThe 5 k was kinda weird for me. To be honest, it wasn't my thing I don't think.
