  • DT kicked my ass today. 113 to 97.

Here is what I have learned...

I have learned how to hit my driver thanks to my coach.

I have learned how to hit my fairway woods thanks to my coach.

She has fixed those for me.

I used to hit my 3-5 irons the same distance. 150 each. She found the flaw in my swing (not rotating my hands over at the point of contact), which was costing me distance.

    Fixing my swing sucks though.

My practice swings look phenominal. Just like at practice.

You put a golf ball in there and I look like a baby giraffe that has just been dropped. I can't hit it.

I am on the verge though...I can feel it.

    • Talk about being on the verge....I shot a 45 on the front nine; 2 pars, 5 bogeys, 2 doubles. Back nine I fell apart; 1 par, 1 bogey, 6 doubles, 1 triple, score of 52. Thing is, it felt like I played great all day. My drives were outstanding, 35 putts. I had a bad chip, then bad putt for par on the 13th and ended with a double. That was the begining of the end. I tryed to pull out of the slide, but couldnt. My misses were not really horribly errant shots just a few flyers over the green and short mis-hits around the green. If I could clean up my short game, I feel like I could really start posting some lower scores.

After the front nine today, I felt like today was going to be the day I shot 90 and possibly broke into the 80's. Its been more than 6 years. So close yet so far.....

Do you and Tick play the same course each time you're out?

        • There are 3 different courses we frequent. It had been over a month since we played this course.

          • I got to play today for the first time in about 3 weeks. I shot a 103, I need to play more. Fall is coming, and I will start getting some more rounds in.

            • The nice part...I turn 35 next week.

My family and my inlaws usually always send you cash/check for how many years you are alive.

So every check/envelope I get next week is a round of golf.

              Yay me!

Good to hear you play multiple courses. Playing only one can give the false sense of shooting a good score.

                • I went out to course to get in a quick nine before dark tonight and I probably should have stayed home. I was two over after eight and hitting the ball good but I had a mini disaster on nine. I'm 100 yards out in two on this par 5 and so I've got a nice little SW in, well I hit that thing in the nuts and it came off like a three iron. They were having a wedding, who has a wedding at a muni course, but any way the parking lot was full and my ball went right into the side of this high lift Dodge. I left my name and number on the truck and I haven't heard from them yet but it ruined my evening.

Ugh, that sucks. Hopefully he doesn't act like a roll of toilet paper about it.

If you're going to regale us with a golf story like this, you should at the very least embellish it by telling us that you ruined the wedding when you put your ball through the window of the clubhouse (or whichever building the wedding was in) and watched in horror as it hit the bride squarely in the forehead.

They were having the wedding on the practice tee. It was kinda a red neck bunch. I figured a note on the truck was safer then wandering down to the practice area and telling one of them that they now have a golf ball size dent in the side of their truck.

                        • Played with The Tick and a couple co-workers today. One of the co-workers picked up clubs for the first time yesterday and the other drinks too much, is loud and generally really slow. It frustrates me to golf with him.

I played horrible on the front 9, shot a 55. Started the round with a Triple, then 3 doubles, a par, bogey, and finshed the front with 3 triples I was really frustrated. I started the back nine double, double. Hole 12, I chipped in for a birdie 20 yards out. 13 I doubled, then par'd the next three (2 should have been birdies; I missed both by leaving them 1-2" short). 17 I lipped my birdie putt, then left a 4 footer for par 1/2" short. Thing is, the drunk co-worker stepped right in my line (edge of the cup actually) when picking up his ball. My ball stopped on the edge of the cup, then rolled back 1/2" on his footprint. It may have rolled in had he not stepped there and left the print, but I'll never know. I should have hit it harder. Bogey. 18 I was chipping up to the green over a bunker, thought I grabbed my LW, but instead grabbed my PW and I chunked it into the bunker. Ended that hole and the round with a double. Shot a 44 on the back, for an overall 99.

Overall, I am happy I was able to come back on the back 9, but still looking for the round when I can put together a good front and back.

He doesn't seem like he would be a great golf partner. He would probably spend the whole time talking about golf shoes and wanting to make sure you had a white belt on to match them, or asking the cart girl if they have anything fancier than a hot dog for lunch.

You need to get in a one man scramble. I shot 68 yesterday in one. It makes a big difference, all the high handercappers killed me. They were shooting net high 50's.

So how many shots per turn do you get in a one man scramble?
