I ran a fun race yesterday. Robie Creek is Boise's biggest race. It's a half marathon that goes up a canyon for about 8.5 miles and then drops down the other side in a steep decent that can really rattle your bones. Last year I finished in 2:01, walking the last few hundred yards to the top (it's really steep), so this year I had to get in under 2.
I finished in 1:57:01 this time and ran the whole way up. The theme this year was blue (as in Piccaso's blue period, the organizers are kind of nerds) so I wore my BYU hat to represent.
After the race the real challenge was getting home. The finish line is in the middle of nowhere and they bus you back to a parking lot some 15 miles from town. Since I'm kind of churchy, I wanted to try to get back for Stake Priesthood meeting at 4pm. So, after I crossed the finish line just before 2:00, I grabbed some food, a couple of bottles of Gatorade and a Diet Pepsi (not sure what I was thinking there, except that it was cold), and took off for the bus. I hitched a ride with a stranger that just happened to live about a mile from my house and I made it back home by 3:45.
It was a busy day.
