Are we going to divide up into teams? If so, let's get a list of participants, two captains, and have a draft.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I am fat. I fail everytime. But that doesn't mean I am not willing to fail again!

          Count me in.

Our first challenge (cyclists vs runners) was the best one as far as participation goes, but I know many here were not fond of the mileage format. I am fine with either calories or mileage or whatever other metric someone can dream up.

Lets just make sure its not too long and has a definite stop date. Anything beyond 2 months seems to fizzle out to nothing.

That was the best participation, but didn't the runners smoke the cyclists overall? I just remember creekster initiating some average miles per participant calculation to soothe the bruised cyclist ego.

I'm not a huge fan of a draft. What about first vs last half of the year birthdays or something similar? Then people can join any time and fit onto a team.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I'd vote for calories because you could track a variety of workouts that don't involve mileage. I don't really run (except for sprints or quick miles during workouts) or bike, but I do a lot of weightlifting and body weight exercises.
              Not that, sickos.

Not so fast, my sandbagging friend. That one came down to the wire. 3,045 for the runners to 2,813 for the cyclists. It wasn't really decided until a few days before it finished.
                    Challenge

                    Spreadsheet

The second challenge that we did was a massacre. But the first one was pretty even, despite the fact that we didn't count Archaea's mileage for the cyclist team.

I think its important that the challenge be close. Perhaps the participants can give an estimate of how many miles/calories or whatever they plan to do in a week. There could be a draft for the top couple of slots and then we could randomly assign after that. Seems like its the few folks who ride/run/swim for a couple hours per day that really swing the thing, so just make sure they are split somewhat evenly between the teams.

Ha...I wish I could claim to sandbagging when you dropped me up that climb in Tahoe...

Didn't we split up Arch (whoever that is... ) into the two teams last time?

If it really did end that close, I'm all for dividing into cyclists vs runners. Although, I can't imagine the cyclists keeping up right now--you won't get many calories/miles/whatever from RC. Summer would be much closer.

I may be the only one who is going to be logging any serious cycling miles (probably 80-100 a week if you count the trainer), but I self identify as a runner. And I will be running a bunch too. RC is just going to have to find a treadmill.

                            If I can't bike I can still ski (x-country).

I will be doing both although I'd wager that my miles will not be nearly as significant as yours.

I thought you were running 6-7 days a week?

Anyway, beyond RC, your average cyclist isn't going to match your average runner this time of year. But I'm all for giving it a try, if they're up for it.
