According to some information I recieved when I got serious about losing weight it depends on activity level ( this came from the ADA and a nutrition class I attended )

      inactive/obese: weight X 10 = calories/day to consume
      1800 calories for a 180 lb person
      medium activitey: weight X 15 = calories/day to consume
      2700 calories for 180 lbs
      athelete: weight X 20 = calories/day to consume
      3600 calories for 180 lbs

      As always Take it FWIW

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

Based on the variety of weight calculators and doctor consultations that I've had, that looks shockingly accurate, at least for me.

Well that sounds a little better, because I am up to 1,038 calories and I have only had breakfast and a morning snack and it is not even 10 yet.

times the current weight or goal weight?
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I am pretty sure that is goal weight.

wouldn't it be the current weight?

I thought the question was "how much do you need to maintain where you are at now?"

                    ah.

why would someone want to maintain an obese/inactive weight?

Beats the hell out of me.

I think the obese was just for a comparison.

This is pretty accurate in my opinion. I think you have to be really active to take in 3600 calories and maintain your weight. Most of us who work out would probably be best served following the X15 formula.

When I was in college and very active (working out 3-4 hours a day), I kept track of my calories for a week for someones nutrition class. This was while living in the dorms. Turns out I was taking in about 6000-7000 calories a day. Those darn soda machines and that chocolate milk with get you every time. No wonder people get the Freshman 15. I didn't gain anything except maybe a few pounds of muscle. Heaven knows I could use it.

Ah,yes, I remember those days. Reminds me of a Sunday School class in which the question came up: What "age" will our resurrected bodies be? I said I hoped I would have the "twenty-something" body I had about 1 year before my metabolism started to change.
