So I am officially all in for the Rock 'n' Roll series Vegas half marathon on December 4. I've heard nothing but great things about this race on the strip at night, so I am currently feeling very motivated and excited. The problem: I've never participated in an organized race of any kind, ever. No 5Ks, no 10Ks, nothing. I have been a fairly consistent short distance runner for over a year as I typically pound out about 12 - 15 miles per week over the span of three or four runs (mostly on treadmills, but Saturdays on the rough streets of Highland, UT). Does anybody have a quality half marathon training schedule they've used in the past to prepare for a run like this? I've found a couple online that are ok, but I'd prefer something one of of you have actually used. Also, any other general advice for what to bring to the race? I'm sure I'll be lubed up from head to toe as tend to chafe more than a BYU coed on the carpets of Branbury. Is anybody else participating in this race?

Interesting...I was looking at this race as well. When they say it is "at night"...I thought it started at 4pm? Is that right? If so..that is hardly 'night'.
I may be tempted to do this one. It would all depend if I do one in Phoenix over Thanksgiving.
Sounds fun...also, there are thousands of runners in this one...right? Like 12,000?"Newton's First Law of Motion: ...things at rest tend to stay at rest. Things in motion, tend to stay in motion...."
Hmm... Good motivation for me to remain active I guess.

The full marathon starts at 4pm while the half begins at 5:30. I guess not technically "at night," but the strip should still be lit up by then given this is a winter run.Originally posted by Borg View PostInteresting...I was looking at this race as well. It will be plenty dark by 5:30. It will definitely be "night" in Vegas, as the sun goes down about a full hour earlier in Vegas than it does in Utah (adjusting for time zones, of course).Originally posted by HBCoug View PostThe full marathon starts at 4pm while the half begins at 5:30.
