    Watches that track distance

Does anyone use one of these and can you recommend one? I want to pick one up and I was checking them out a bit last night. Do all of them come with the little foot pod thingy that you have to attach to your shoe? That sounds like a pain in the ass, in addition to making the whole setup a bit pricey. Is there any watch where just the thing itself with no additional gadgetry tracks your miles? I'm not looking for anything fancy or worried about precision accuracy, just something that would give me a reasonable sense of how far I've run.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

What price range? you can get a cheap pedometer for $10, or get a watch with GPS for a whole lot.

Another option: a coworker went paragliding last weekend up by Wenatchee somewhere. He had a GPS-enabled app on his iPhone that downloaded his route, IN 3D, to googleearth. Very cool!

If you listen to music on an iPhone or Android while you run this might be an easy option.

I was hoping for about $100. The stuff I saw last night was in the $200-$300 range when you added the foot pod.

      I don't have an iPhone.

That's one I was looking at last night where you have to buy the additional foot pod thing. Oh well, maybe I'll just bite the bullet and go that route.

Are you strictly running indoors? The 305 uses GPS to track mileage.

The foot pod is only if you are running on a treadmill.

No, outside. If I was indoors I'd just hop on a treadmill and it would tell me how far I've gone.

$138 and then it's another $50 I think for the foot pod thingy. More than I was hoping to spend, but maybe I'll just go for it.

You don't need the foot pod outside. Everything is tracked on the watch by GPS.

Oh, sorry, I missed that. Cool. Maybe I'll order that one up.

Grace no foot pod needed. We all run with the 305 and love it. You will too.

I like mine, but it doesn't have a watch feature (or if it does, I haven't figured out how to access it). That is my only complaint. Sometimes I want to just know what time it is when I am out on a run.

It does have a watch in it. You just need to program one of your screens to show time of day. I have it in one of my alternate screens, so I click the up button to show the time.

                            Awesome...thanks peeps!

Random question, why would you want to use it on a treadmill? Just for heart rate stuff?

Is there a simple way to explain how to do that or do I need to go find my user manual.
