    3. Clear skin
    4. Eliminated foot odor (this was a weird one for me. I can go play sports or walk around all day and sweat in my shoes like crazy and take them off and stick my nose in my shoe and you'd never know I'd used it.)
    5. Less sleepy throughout the day
    6. Very easy to go to the bathroom
    7. I have a VERY maneagle weight, despite my parents' tendencies to gain.

Okay, that's pretty much all of them. But those were pretty big deals to me.
I feel the same after eating at this one hole-in-wall authentic mexican place on the other side of town. It gives me the runs as well. That's how I know it is authentic.

You know, I cant remember once ever taking off my shoes and sticking my nose inside one of them. Do you do this often? Why?

Having divorced yourself from the nonsensical reasoning with which you started, I'll go ahead and agree with your basic premise. My experience has been similar to yours in many ways. I had some fat to lose, and reached my goal weight a few months ago only to find out that the destination was farther away than I had thought, having lost a substantial amount of muscle in the years of plenty. Now I've replaced what I judge to be all of the original lean mass, and perhaps more, and aim to lose another 10 pounds to get back to my original goal.

Most of this has been without meat, although I'll afford this deprivation only tertiary credit for my success. It has been easier to avoid unwanted gains during my less-motivated days, to be sure, but what I deem to be a near-heroic amount of willpower and motivation has certainly been more important.

I do continue to consume dairy and eggs, albeit only those of quality provenance, as I judge that the leap from vegetarianism to veganism (if you'll pardon the use of such blunt and questionable terms) to greatly exceed the difficulty of the leap to the former from omnivory.

When I was younger I used to smell my new shoes for a little bit. Vans.

Yeah. That DID sound like it. I really DON'T know why I bother, now that you mention it. I don't GET anything for telling people to stop eating meat and dairy. It's not like I sell granola bars. I probably just want to feel important

These are pretty much the same benefits I've noticed from a low carb, high meat diet:

              1. Increased energy
              2. Much improved digestion/stools
              3. significant weight/fat loss
              4. reduced cravings for food/snacks
              5. increased muscle mass

Go figure. PS, how do you avoid eating protein? No nuts?

How do I avoid it? I don't. That's the thing. Protein is in most grains. It's slightly higher in some than in others, but it's there. An egg has what, six grams of protein, if I'm not mistaken? A slice of whole wheat bread has five. I've been putting on muscle just fine without protein loading from shakes (whey), meat or dairy. I hope that high protein diet works out for you long-term. The things I've read on it have been a little scary.

BTW, any chance that the reason you notice those things might be connected to the training you're doing in conjunction with it? That sounds like a training meal plan you're on, in which case all of those side effects seem like a perfectly normal response to the change. Now, if you didn't change your workout habits at all when starting that eating regimen it might seem a little more likely to be the cause of the effect. For me the side effects have zero to do with my workouts, as I've been working out every day for years.

I'm also curious how long you've been doing this for. The things I've read coin it as the ultimate fad or swing diet, because it seems to work WONDERS at the startup, then is connected to all kinds of illnesses and complications in the long run.

The Atkins diet and a vegetarian diet work well for weight loss, and largely for the same reason: they eliminate foods that people are prone to eating way too much of.

They have other health effects as well, but those concerns are generally secondary, as one would have to try very hard to find a diet that causes worse health problems than obesity does.

Sure, Atkins is a "fad" diet, and I would certainly recommend a "slow carb" or "paleo" diet over it, as they incorporate some of the same principles but result in a much better macro profile. Nevertheless, the diet that can be sustained is the best one (as far as weight loss goes).

Of course any diet only works so long as you don't pig out all the time.

As for the illnesses and complications...link? I don't think so. I don't think anybody encourages a diet free from or light on vegetables.

After watching part of Food, Inc we have been getting ours from Whole Foods Market more often.

Hey, I just found this ezine article. Says basically what I've heard. Works wonders in the short run, results stop completely in long run and turn into all kinds of problems. What's funny is that he doesn't mention what those are except for...(wait for it), bad breath, body odor, etc. I thought that part was interesting, considering what I had said earlier about my feet having no odor anymore.

The bad breath is present from the beginning. It's a result of the ketosis that the diet encourages. That site doesn't seem to help your cause much.
