    Kettle bells - kettleworx

Ok, late/early one night this past week, couldn't sleep. Turned on the TV and caught this "kettlebell" workout dealio from Kettleworx.

Anyway, I know in the past, that the SDSU football team (maybe that explains their underperformance!) used to have kettle bell workouts. Apparently, it's supposed to be killer hard and a great all around workout.

Has anyone tried kettle bells before that would like to offer up a review? I'm actually thinking of doing this...I'm a sucker for these things.

Hmm... Good motivation for me to remain active I guess.

I've been doing Crossfit for the last couple months, and they use kettle bells a lot. I think they can be a really good workout depending on what exercises you do. One of the best full-body workouts I've ever done is Turkish get ups. It engages several muscle groups at once, and just doing three sets of five on each side is a good workout in itself. Here's a link to a video that shows what they are: [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbabYc6HZw0"]YouTube - Kettlebell Turkish Get-Ups[/nomedia]
    Not that, sickos.

I also crossfit and use kettlebells. They are good sometimes as part of a workout routine. I would not want to do an entire workout with just kettlebells. At least not very often.

Why not? Please explain...the promo was specifically stating that in and of itself is much better than doing isolated individual muscles in a gym, as this one supposedly uses 'groups' of muscles at the same time.

So...why not the 'entire' workout? Is it that difficult?

The video I watched looked like a pretty incomplete/boring workout. I suppose it depends on what your goal is. I'd do P90x before I went to a strict kettlebell workout. More variety.

I'm very interested in kettlebells. Anyone know where to buy them cheap? They are about $2/lb at the places at Big 5 and Walmart. It could get pretty expensive if I buy a lot of them.

I use a kettlebell as part of a workout. First, let me say how disappointed I was that they aren't really bells, as I was hoping for Notre Dame-like chimes as I raised and lowered the things. Alas.

While they can provide a full body workout out (one exercise I do, 15 reps, 3 sets, is a squat, then extending the arms straight out while standing and raising the kb high overhead--really works the thighs and arms, and pretty much everything else), I really like variety.

Since starting strength training in late September, I've had close to 40 workouts and no two have been identical. It keeps me interested and motivated.

Saw some advertised cheap a few days ago on slickdeal. But then I noticed they only went up to 20 pounds. I start at 35 lbs when I use kettlebells and go up to 70, so at $2 per lb, that's pretty expensive.

Probably need to check the classifieds.

I know a few Olympic volleyball players do kettlebell workouts. I know they use some of the smaller weights (like 20s) and holding one in each hand, do a series of exercises. I also know they do some with 45 lb kettlebells. I don't know if they are a great exercise but these guys are in amazing shape for volleyball.
