    Zumba

Been going for a few weeks now, try to get 4-5 classes in a week. It's a ton of fun. I've yet to hear of any guys going (and boy would I love to be a fly on the wall in that class!). If you or your wifey have thought about going, you need to just go. Grab a friend and go. If no one wants to go then suck it up and go by yourself. You won't regret it.

I got tired of friends and MIL even telling me that they would start going with me, but on that dreaded day they would back out for one reason or another . So I go by myself and have made several new friends! You are so focused on the instructor learning the moves that you have no opportunity to watch the other people in the class. Don't worry about what they'll think of ya. I'm 29 and towards the younger group that attends. The front row of my night class consists of 3 ladies in their 70's and one in her 80's. If they can do it, anyone can.

Count this as my good deed for the day. Encourage your wives or female friends to go. I'm a sahm and getting out is wonderful. I socialize, dance and exercise all at the same time. So go on...ZUMBA!

My wife goes to zumba a couple of times per week. She loves it. She uses that and a group power class as cross training when she is not running.

Side note, we recently had a gal move into our ward that is a zumba instructor. Several ladies in the ward complained to the bishop about how inappropriate it was that she was teaching such a naughty class. I don't think they realized that dozens of ladies in the ward and stake, including the stake president's wife, attend these same classes.

Seriously? What is wrong with people? My wife goes 2-3 times a week and loves it. It's been great for her.

When I go to the gym and I walk by the Zumba class I think about going in but I know deep in my heart that the reason I would be in there would not be for exercise so I walk by and go pump some more iron.

So if they think Zumba is naugty I'd hate to think what they would say to the SP about my hula dancing! Mostly bc I cannot wear g's w/ my costumes so that would make it pretty inappropriate, right?

You should go in. Not because I am encouraging you to watch other ladies shake what their mama gave them, but because you will quickly realize that you'll be so lost and trying to focus on the instructor so you don't look like a total idiot that you won't realize that the chick in front of you is a 200 lb 60 year old grandma shaking her badunkadunk.

I hadn't heard that euphemism before. Nice one!

The New Mexican Disastress is a jazzercise instructor and it has taken over our home life. She has also dropped 40 lbs. and lots of inches left over from baby #2 by Jazzercise and Weight Watchers. These types of programs are really great if they get people moving.

I've taken a few Zumba classes. I thought they were fun, and were definitely a good work out (sometimes more or less so, depending on the instructor). The problem for me became that the classes were in such demand at the community center that they had to hand out numbers to people who wanted to take the class. I had to show up at the main desk sometimes thirty minutes in advance to try to get a spot, and even then sometimes didn't get in. They even had a "bouncer" at the door of the aerobics room who would bellow, "NO PASS! NO CLASS!"

It was somewhat comical, but I have a hard enough time motivating myself to exercise without all the additional hassle. I bought an elliptical.

I love group exercise but I have never done Zumba. What's the appeal? And, I am quite uncoordinated. Is there a lot of choreography?

Zumba is a dance class, so yes, there's TONS of choreography. I've never done any kind of group exercise class before. I really enjoy this though. I like that mine isn't in a gym so there's not the intimidation of men walking by, lol, or that there's super fit women watching you huff and puff on the treadmill. Everyone's on the same playing field. And it's fun shakin' what my mama gave me...
