But once it's healed, you can go all out. I make sure to stretch my calves more often. I've also been told that once you hit 30, you need to spend more time stretching the calves and achilles to prevent those injuries.

Mine took at least 4 weeks to heal, maybe longer. I didn't do anything on it for the 1st 2. Then I built up slowly and after 4-5 weeks was back to doing intense training.
Thanks for the input. Yep, I'm in the over 30 crowd.

I've just started training for the Ogden Marathon, so I'm stuck between wanting to rest it and not wanting to miss out on too much training so that I'm ready.

Last year I hurt this same calf with 2 months left to train - and ended up doing very little because I started back too soon.

I've cut way WAY back on what I want to do to train now - cutting out a couple of runs a week in my schedule and going with the most beginner routine available - and then eliminating one of the short runs. As soon as it stops hurting I'm planning to just walk the distance I should be running, and then as each week passes I'll start to walk a half mile, jog a half mile, alternating through the distance. Hopefully by April/May I'll be jogging the whole distance.
