  • How to start doing pushups

My son started Tae Kwon Do this fall and has to do pushups every once and a while. The problem is that he is so skinny, he can't.

Are there good exercises to help strenthen his body enough to get him to a point where he can do pushups.

I had him try keeping his knees on the ground and he still can't. I finally had him lean up against the wall and do pushups against the wall. He still struggles with that.

How can I get him strong enough quickly to do pushups?

very light dumb bells and a flat bench would do it.

Have him keep at it. If he's struggling that's good. He's building muscles. Just be sure that he doesn't break form. I'd just have him continue to practice pushups there and then lower the angle, using the back of a sofa or something until he can do them on his knees on the ground and then normal pushups. The only way he's going to get stronger is through the struggle.
