Stare at boobs for longer life: Study

    ...

According to Dr. Karen Weatherby, a gerontologist and author of the study, gawking at women’s breasts is a healthy practice, almost at par with an intense exercise regime, that prolongs the lifespan of a man by five years.

She added, "Just 10 minutes of staring at the charms of a well-endowed female, is roughly equivalent to a 30-minute aerobics work-out."

You had me, until the claim that it was as good as 30 minutes of exercise.
      It's way better than that!

          :anger: You are correct:

Did The New England Journal of Medicine claim that ogling women's breasts is good for a man's health?

Hoax or not, I ask my preop hip fracture patients if they have chest pain or shortness of breath during vigorous sex. If no, I don't have to do more testing outside of a baseline EKG because sex equals six functional metabolic equivalents, which is near bowling.

I didn't do any further workup on a stable patient with severe systolic dysfunction (heart failure) because he didn't have symptoms during vigorous sex. Cardiology thought that was interesting. I said, "hey, it is your associations guidelines."

If you don't have shortness of breath during sex, you're not doing it right.

I ask at least 20 patients per day whether or not they have chest pain with physical activity. I would never be reassured by absence of pain during sex. Without a demonstration (which would be disgusting, incidentally) how on earth do you know how vigorous the sex is and whether or not it stresses the heart?

You're probably oversimplifying for the lay audience, but every patient with severe systolic left ventricular dysfunction needs a coronary angiogram. I don't care if the guy claims to be having asymptomatic, vigorous sex 23 hours per day.

I don't know what any of this means, but I am pretty sure that someone got schooled.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Listen to CardiacCoug. If nothing else (and there's a lot else), at least he doesn't unnecessarily mooch off of the government.

Oversimplified. You would agree that, per the AHA/ACC 2007 consensus guidelines on perioperative evaluation for non-cardiovascular surgery that a patient with known severe systolic dysfunction with greater than 5 functional metabolic equivalents (without active cardiac conditions) requiring urgent surgery does not need further invasive cardiac testing.

I don't know why, but I just thought of an episode of ER where the male doctors were "TUBE"ing female patients. Totally Unnecessary Breast Exam. I wonder how often that happens.

I think most hospitals would require a female chaperon for a breast exam. I could be wrong though.
