I think this year has been really exciting. I think its great to see the emergence of a lot of young talent that appear to be the bulk of the "next wave" on tour.

It seems like golf is becoming more and more like other sports in the sense that youth and athleticism are becoming more and more important. Golfers still have much longer careers than other athletes, but I think they're having a harder time staying relevant into their second decade. Phil is 40 years old. Tiger has been playing professionally now for 14 years. I think you'll start seeing more and more young golfers exploding onto the scene while the aging superstars are out of contention on Sunday.

I like what Andy North said, for a bunker to be a bunker, it needs a rake, otherwise it's a waste bunker. The major problem in this case, is that the PGA messed up from the beginning and turned a "normal" situation ino a stupid local rule.

I love golf and one of the things I love best about it is the honor system and calling your own, but I don't think it is out of the realm of reason for the official to say, "Hey DJ, since we're letting the gallery do whatever they want, just thought I'd remind you're in a bunker."

Who knew Surfah had a Dustin Johnson-boner? Also I don't know what your argument is as it seems to have changed about 4 times in this thread, it wasn't really a bunker, the gallery was in it, the judge should have told him it was a bunker, it was all on Johnson, Whistling Straits is stupid... Usually it takes MarkGrace talking NBA to get you this flustered.

One thing I learned this past weekend watching golf on TV, is that the camera lens make it appear that the ball goes straight right at impact.

I've noticed this effect forever, and attributed it to some special right to left working of the ball, afforded professional golfers, but Gary McCord addressed it saying that it's a camera lens anomaly, and the actual ball flite of Pro's looks the same as for you and I.

              Good to Know.

I have often wondered about that as well. I really liked the shot tracker they were using during the Open at St. Andrews.

So we're watching the latest episode of Golf in America, and they're doing a special on some golf course in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho where the island green is on hydraulics and moves closer to or further from land. Then when you putt out, they have to have a Coast Guard certified pilot to drive you the 100 yards from the dockside to the green. Anyway, it just sounded reeeeeealllly expensive. My husband mentioned he's golfed there before, and he gave me pricing including a $100 tip for the "fore caddy" or "fore caddy."

                  "Oh?" I asked, "what's a four caddy?"

Well, he explains, it's a caddy who guides you through the course.

                  Does he carry your clubs?

No, but he gives you advice.

                  What kind of advice?

Well, he carries a rangefinder, and he can give you distances.

Didn't I buy you a very expensive rangefinder last Christmas?

Well yes, but he also tells you the course layout.

Can't you buy a course guide booklet? Or consult the on-board cart computer?

                  But... he's required.

You mean it's mandatory to use a four caddy who doesn't carry your clubs?

                  Uhhh, yeah.

                  _____

Hmmm, well okay, but I'm thinking that this has got to be the biggest con job in the world.

I played at Glen Wild Country Club a few months back and we had a caddy very similar. After everyone hit their shots as we were putting our clubs away and walking back to our carts, he would sprint down the fairway and find everyones balls, by the time we got there he would have yardage ready and tips on hitting your next shot. We each tipped him $20, which I think was probably lower than what he is used to. He has actually caddied for Michael Jordan before, said MJ is not as big of a tipper as you would think.

Perhaps he really did caddy for MJ, but having played with different caddies the last couple of years at Bandon I believe 0.0% of caddy stories. I think that every caddy figures out what the group is interested in and then tells about how they caddied for someone you would like from the genre.

On my last caddy experience my caddy happened to have looped Chip Kelly, Charles Barkley and Jerry Rice. Meanwhile my buddy that puts the trip together who is a news producer and trying to make movies on the side had a caddie that had looped Wolf Blitzer and Steven Spielberg.

MJ is a known member at Glen Wild, he plays up there quite a bit. So even if he personally had not caddied for him I am sure several of the caddies up there have. MJ plays out there a few times a month.

That is really funny, and probably 100.00% correct. I'm surprised that the caddy's didn't name drop the same people.

BTW... did you have to have a caddy at Bandon? I've never had a caddy, what's it like? (I just can't imagine my money vrs pleasure restrictor plate ever failing that much to pay for a caddy.)

Not required. It is $55 for the round at Bandon, plus tip. I was opposed the first year we went, after playing the first round and carrying my clubs through the ever present wind and hills I decided that I wasn't so opposed.

Which begs the question. What exactly does one round at Bandon Dunes cost with the greens fee, the caddy, the tipping, etc?

(I know... if I have to ask I can't afford it. I can afford it for myself, but I'd have to take my two sons with me, and that triples the expense. So what am I looking at.)

$2 million dollars. But you can leave a deposit.

                                How much is the deposit?
