The 305 will also work with my fluid trainer (with a $38 speed/cadence accessory). The bike computers almost all work on front wheel only, rendering them useless with a trainer.

I recomment the quick release kit as well. It comes with a mount for the bike and a new wrist strap. Very useful for the tri training.

I already ordered one. I got the 305, the speed/cadence kit, and the quick release kit.

      Can't wait.

I've been using the 205 (the 305 minus HRM) since it came out. I have literally not had one problem with it over hundreds of runs. I had the 201 before it and had to replace it once because it kept freezing up.

The only downside to the 305 is it's eleven hour battery life so when you do Lotoja this year you're going to have to get after it.

No worries. I will finish in less than 11 hrs easily.

I am thinking of getting my wife a Nuvi for Valentines Day. She is always calling me in the middle of the day asking me for directions. "I have started to go to a therapist but can't find his office," "How do I get to the divorce attorney's office?" or "What is the address of that new single guy that moved into our ward?" stuff like that. It gets annoying. Use google maps!
Well now that my old Nuvi has been jacked, I am in the market for a new one myself. This model (Garmin Nuvi 765T) looks pretty good. I bet the lane assist feature would be great in LA.

The MSN traffic feature is free for life. I has little pop-up ads.

                  Nice. thanks for the link.

OK, so for my wife, I want to get her one with bluetooth phone capability, but I am wondering about paying extra for traffic features. You say the MSN one is free. Any reviews on the accuracy?

Traffic in LA is an odd beast. I have yet to hear of any reliable devices to really help navigate traffic in SoCal.

I wonder why SigAlert.com has not partnered with one of these nav companies yet? Sigalert rocks for realtime southland traffic updates.

My immediate concern for the 765 is that it costs 4 notes. I dont think my wife needs that much machine. She basically needs something that will tell her how to find Deseret Book, Beehive Clothing, misc lingerie boutiques, etc.
                  Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

My 760 had a 90-day free trial on the traffic alerts and I used it in LA/SD last summer. I wasn't terribly impressed. Sometimes it was right and sometimes it wasn't. It seems to get pretty good reviews overall, however. I haven't spent too much time investigating it because our traffic is nothing like yours.

Yeah, it's the new version so it is still pricey. But the 3D views and the lane assist stuff looks very cool. Being a geek, I am drawn to gadgets like this like a moth to a flame.

Overall it seems like the Garmin units have the best reviews. There are probably quite a few units that would make her happy. My wife has enjoyed our 760. She mocked me when I bought it but she quickly learned to like it.

I forget which Garmin we got for Christmas, but I have had 2 different Garmin handhelds and am now on my 3rd Garmin GPS for the car. They are the best hands down. Gidget will have to confirm but I think we have a 600 series Garmin. It's nice enough.

I got my forerunner 305 and have been using it for a few days now. It is great. I am very happy with it.

                          Thanks everybody.

I love my 305. I take it with me both running and mountain biking. I can't think of a reason to get a computer for my bike, as all I really care about is speed and distance, and in southern Utah, there's not a lot of tree interference with the signal. Even in northern Utah, it hasn't been a problem. I guess road bikers might care more about cadence, but I think there's even an attachment for that.

                              About the 405...
It had just come out when I bought my 305 and I was dissuaded by some of the reviews. However, everyone I know who has one hasn't had a problem. And the wireless syncing is really cool. The size difference is really nice.

I actually like the big display on the 305. I can see lots of data at once.
