Anyone up for a new challenge?

    Or two?

I had a few ideas in mind for some summer/fall challenges but wanted to gauge interest level first.

My thoughts were along the lines of the following:
-May Combine. Reporting only but it gives anyone (me, at least) a motivation to get started for the spring even with small mileage, challenge others to a challenge (who here has the highest vertical leap ), or just strut your stuff. Join as early or late as you like.
-Summer CUF Challenge. 6/1-7/14 & 7/15-8/31 (I've split this for anyone who would prefer to participate for only six weeks or thinks three months is just too much). I'd be looking for team captains here to draft head/motivate their teams. The better the participation, the happier I am so I'm taking any suggestions you may wish to give here or via PM that you feel will make this something you want to participate in. I got a suggestion--I'll let him speak for himself if he wishes to take credit--that we realign ala European soccer leagues midway through to make sure things stay competitive. I figured it would depend on #s. Sign up before June 1.
Most importantly, I want to make it clear that I hope no one excludes himself from participation merely because you're only planning on walking around the block a few times a week. I hope all will feel comfortable joining. Again, I'm happy to answer questions/concerns via PM if that helps.
-Race yourself. I mentioned in the earlier thread this year on ideas that maybe we could race our own last year's performance. If there's demand, I can add this information for 7/15-8/31 for those interested and create pseudo-head-to-heads for the newbies.
-Ratios. I'm sticking with the RATT ratios--1:1 walking/running, 3.5:1 road cycling, 3:1 mountain bike (on road), 2:1 mountain bike on trail, 1:4 swimming.
-Repentance. I'll no longer be anti-machinite. If you want to calculate the MET for your task, I'll add a tab for you fellow fitness-seekers.
Disclaimer: I reserve the right to veto/modify your calculation if it doesn't look right, but I hope that won't be an issue.
-Spouses. Welcome as before, if they have joined CUF. I assume I'm adding Archaea as an unofficial participant again?
-Fall. Someone else can tackle a September challenge if you decide you want it. I'm just throwing that out there right now.

Of course, I suggest any bragging reporting beyond the Google spreadsheet be done in the Distance Challenge entries thread.

I'm always up for a challenge.

I find that I am much more likely to participate when there is reporting and/or some sense of competition. More than once last fall I heard the alarm go off and felt like hitting the snooze but then decided I want to have some miles to enter in the contest.

Dumb, I know. But it it is what motivates me to move I'll have to take it.

      I endorse this post.

Also, I'm in for both May & the whole Summer.

Thanks, Eddie. Comments like that made the whole thing worth my time last summer.

I'm in. I'm 12 lbs over my medically recommended weight of 175 for a 5'11" white male. I'm adding muscle at the same time as losing fat, so the net loss has been only 1-2 lbs per week since April 1. Should keep me busy through June, anyway.

I would love a summer challenge, as summers are a hard time to run around here, but would sign up for any of this stuff (although the me from last August was faster than the me today - although the me today can run farther). I echo to the sentiments about everybody signing up - no need to feel like your mile walk is unworthy.

Sure, I enjoyed the last two. Anything to keep me motivated. Maybe I"ll be able to get up that blessed hill in less than 20 min when this is done

I may be small, but I'm slow.

BBB, I loved the summer challenge last year. But my motivation ebbed for the fall challenge. My theory is that we will get better participation if we don't overkill the idea. I would propose focusing on one six-week summer challenge.

I am in. I really enjoyed the last couple of challenges. Like Eddie, there were several times last summer when the only reason I got out of bed and went for a run or ride was because I knew nikuman had probably just finished a 6 mile run an hour earlier.

Likewise, I blame you for all of my overtraining injuries. There were several times where I pushed it a couple of miles extra because I knew you were out there.

I'm in. I need something to keep me motivated. My schedule is so crazy that it's impossible to have a consistent running/training partner. Hopefully having partners on the internet will be enough to get me running after I roll in at 5 in the morning. I'll need to figure out how to enter the data.
