    I just sprained my ankle

on the last step of our stairs and crumpled to the ground like Manu Ginobli running into a Pau Gasol pick. It hurt like a bitch. And my foot immediately felt warm as blood rushed to it. I made quite the thud too with my tumble and everyone in the house ran to see what happened. My oldest daughter started crying because she thought I was seriously hurt. Talk about embarrassing. I am a clutz.

I am going to have to pop a handful of ibuprofen in the morning before the stake basketball tournament.

Have you been knockin' back grandpa's ol' cough syrup? I hope my wife got a pic of that.

I'll defer to the doctors on the board (Hostile in particular as he is an orthopod), but is it really a good idea to go play basketball tomorrow morning with what you have described as a pretty badly sprained ankle? Having sprained my ankles numerous times, I can tell you that you develop scar tissue as a protective measure but your ankles are never the same and the sprains become more and more frequent. Then, as you grow older, you develop arthritis in the joint. Not much fun I will tell you.

It's sore but definitely playable. I'm no stranger to bad ankle sprains. I've had some of the worst. In fact whenever I play sports I wear Active Ankle braces. Something I've done since volleyball in high school.

You're probably OK to play if you can walk on it. I would ice it heavily tonight and plan on icing it after the game tomorrow. If you have a brace or someone who can tape you're ankle, that would be a bonus. Ibuprofen is fine. The over-the-counter strength is 200 mg. You can take four of those, three times a day.

The T2. I am not sure if they make the dual strap one anymore. It used to be the T1 I think. I had those in HS. I also wore the McDavid ultralights with straps. Those braces are really nice but they take so dang long to put on that I went and bought the T2's a few years ago.

I will say though that the Active Ankle braces aren't for everyone. I know for a lot of people it hurts their feet. They rub my feet on the inside of my arch. Probably because I have no arch. When I was playing basketball daily I had a callous on the inside of my arch from where it would rub.
