  • Went to a PT today for some tendonitis.

I've always struggled with patellar tendonitis, but lately it has been so bad it keeps me awake at night and makes sitting for prolonged periods absolutely excruciating. I told him I wanted to run a marathon this fall, and we started talking races.

He's a skinny guy, early forties would be my guess. I told him I wanted to run a sub 4 this fall and he gave me some advice. He competes in iron mans and I knew he was probably fast, but I had to ask.

    "Around 3," he says.

"You mean just under 3?" I ask.

He shrugs and nods. I walk away feeling like a complete loser.

And yes, bluegoose, you know him.

I'm telling him you said he was in his early 40s.

I'm assuming you asked him what his marathon PR is?

Yeah, I wondered about that after I posted it. I was thinking his wife was the same age as mine and I'll be 40 this summer, but maybe I was way off.

He wouldn't tell me. I think he thought I was one of those creeps that would plaster his personal information all over the internet.

I should have gone to physical therapy years ago. A couple of excercises, a few pointers on stretches and a little ice and I feel like a new man.

They can do some great things. I try to get people to go to just one visit to learn some basic stretches.

When I threw out my back, they taught me how to get out of bed and onto the toilet without exacerbating my injury. Those 2 simple things were worth the whole bill.

I believe that I introduced Steelblue to him at the vendors expo in St George. He's a very nice guy and a heck of an athlete. His time was a little off his PR, but still amazing considering he also runs and swims hard several times per week.

I'm glad its feeling better so quickly. Patellar tendonitis is one of the those -itises that typically responds fairly well to PT.

If you just keep a colostomy bag close by, there's no reason to get out of bed.

Just bypass the bag and have someone place a rectal tube. While you're at it you could get a feeding tube as well.

That's a good point. Why not take advantage of today's medical technology?

What type of things are you doing? I have had patella tendinitis for years, though it really only flares us after playing basketball. I do generally feel it for a 1/2 male or so every once and a while. On my 7 miles this weekend, I felt it aroudn mile 5 and then it subsided after a few minutes.

In college it was so bad that I bumped it once and collapsed to the floor of the international cinema in the SWKT. Used to hurt so bad it would almost bring tears to my eyes.
