I would need another really good cause to do it again. I get a lot more enjoyment out of my exercise when I'm not doing it merely because of a meaningless competition.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I was pondering this last weekend. I only came up with two ideas so far. (Either I'm not putting a lot of thought into it, or I lack imagination--you make the call.)

My preference would be to recreate or do a variation of the Runners-vs-Cyclists April-May, then have a Baseliners competition against our own results from last summer for the same time period. Newcomers can be put into head-to-head matchups based on goals.

      Any other ideas?

        I'm definitely interested.

I like both of these ideas. I had a great time with the Runners-vs-Cyclists challenge. However, I foresee that we may have some issues with the conversion (I vote we stay with the Ironman ratio, but I'm not sure all will see things that way).

I do wonder if we do something like get our respective universities or some subdivision thereof to agree to fund a donation towards a joint charity based on our summer running. Something nice, like new toys at primary children's (if there's a need, of course). I do not have the contacts to pull that off, but I always like running for a cause.

I'm in as long as the board is no longer engaging in the discriminatory practice of machinism.

As long as we discount ellipticals on a 1.5-1 basis or similar. In fact, I will volunteer to do the math by doing a comparison of my HR while running versus my HR will doing elliptical over specific time and distance intervals. I did a ton of elliptical when my knee was bad. Way easier.

Fine, do your discounting formula, Mr. jim crow.

                I will still exercise.

Fit at last, fit at last....thank god almightly I'm fit at last!

I'm up for it. I still can't figure out why you guys are SOOO against letting some people report by time instead of miles, though. That would be WAY easier for me. And how about picking teams that can actually compete with each other?

                    I'm in.

What exactly are the rules? And can playing basketball somehow be counted in? I play 1-2 times a week, full court.

'Cause I started the whole shishkebang, and I already compete with people at work who think a 90-minute 2-mile walk is worth twice as much as a 45-minute 5-mile run. So, I made my own rules.

You could always spearhead a revolt and start your own challenge.

                        I would do it.

I'm in the middle of training for the Ogden marathon in May and would love to get some kind of credit in a competition for training miles.

I've found that what Hal Higdon recommends isn't all that tough to run - particularly outside of the long run - but the miles are going to start adding up here soon and I'm looking forward to that.

Once the marathon is over I've got the spudman tri in July and ongoing motivation through the summer is never a bad thing...

I know I just need to keep going. I let myself get out of the habit last fall, and while it wasn't as tough as beginning for the first time - it is certainly easier to add mileage than it is to start and stop.
