how did they ride on groomers?

I thought they were fine, don't remember any tip flap really. But when I'm riding groomers, I'm usually with my youngest or my wife offering helpful suggestions (usually ignored); my youngest and my wife ski maddeningly slow.

Off the groomers they were great everywhere: powder, terrain, etc. We had some fresh powder one day and the skis just carved it up. Knowing my boy's growing taste for terrain park runs, I had myself fitted shorter than I usually do but the skis still handled the powder with ease.

I just read an article that indicated that Parks was liquidating all of their non-winter merch. The store is reorganizing as a winter-only shop. This means that skis are probably not going to be discounted. But if you go, please report back. If there are sales, I might pop by this weekend at some point.

Ok thinking of making the switch to a fatter ski underfoot. These days I spend the majority of time on groomers with the Puffy Check or my wife. I may get 3-4 solo days max to myself so get off-piste, which is why going fat interests me a bit....nice for powderhound days. The problem is that I think I need a more all-mountain ski to compensate for the majority of the time when I am on groomers. For those with fat skis, what are you riding? How wide at the waist? I see some guys on 130 underfoot and they look like water skis to me. I dont think I need that much ski. Im currently narrowing my focus to 3 or 4 different models, all between 98-108 waist. If you do ride a fat ski, how do they do on groomers? My main concerns are chatter/tip flap when trying to carve and turning radius. I like to make smaller tighter turns but dont want to feel like I have to do a ton of work to get into my turn. The boards Im looking at:

Of the 4 Im considering, the Experience probably makes the most sense from a groomer perspective. The Volkl a are awesome but usually are a hard charger and require a lot more work to drive. Really really interested in the Soul 7 and the Bacons, both of which have received almost universal positive reviews.

Any suggestions?

I've been on Volkl Gotama (107 at the waist) for a few years now and really like them. I can charge the Cirque or ride Big Emma with the kids. No problems on groomers. As you noted they require some work. They aren't great in bumps but neither am I.

My son skied Sir Francis last year and really liked them. He's grown several inches so he may need to move up a size but it is a fun ski.

This will be my wife's first year on a true twin-tip - old bump skier. She has the Line female ski. She hasn't tried it yet but is looking forward to the season.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger today. Went with the Bacons and paired with the Marker Griffons. Im really pumped about these sticks, especially with all the snow on the ground here in downtown.




Coupled with my custom-cooked Salomons, I am READY. Let it snow.

Nice!!! I think you will like the SFB's. I've got Marker Jester Pro 16 on my Gotamas. Snowbird to open in 2 weeks.

Actually I just saw that Solitude bumped up Opening Day to this Friday. Special pricing all weekend: $34 all day. If I werent heading to madison, I would be all over that preview.

I have a potential client coming in the weekend before Thanksgiving that has been praying for there to be snow during his trip (he's from NJ and each time we speak he's mentioned the "legendary snow of Utah"). I'll keep my fingers crossed.
