Perhaps I am imagining it incorrectly, but green line sounds counter intuitive to me. It seems that you actually have to be turning much faster since you are skiing down the ridge lines of consecutive moguls that are all in the same line. With the blue technique, you are able to make wider turns. While you have to cross the trough, you are in essence touching moguls in 3 adjacent lines as you turn right and left on your way down.....the main line, the right line and the left line.
Interesting. I'm with you--I'd never heard of blue vs green lines and just sort of intuitively have always skied blue line (as described in the video). I'm wondering what the more aggressive option would be?

I also agree that the green line sounds counterintuitive, but might be a nice way to slow down your run when you start to lose control--basically start the turn quicker to grab the soft snow? I'll have to mess around with this next time I go.

My biggest challenge skiing bumps is my lean. I'm sure I'm not alone on that one.

        Ugh.
This picture--looking down off the chair at an injury--reminds me of a potentially awful incident on one of my shifts a few weeks ago. A 4 yo old, sitting next to his dad on the chair, leaned forward and fell ~25 feet. He was brought in by ambulance and miraculously ended up having no significant injuries (kids are might bendable), but imagine being the dad and having to finish the longest lift ride of your life as your kid is lying on the snow below.

          • We've had about 25 inches since Monday, probably saved the season. Of course we went up on Monday and nobody wanted to ski so we just tubed and dug snow caves/tunnels.

We are hosting some potential partners from SoCal so I'm going to be in meetings tomorrow. Friday is a possibility but I'm more likely looking at Saturday as well.

You going Big or Little? I think you said you have a pass at snowbird, no? I'd be interested in a report when you get back. I'm wondering how wet this snow is. It is coming down up there but is it dry?

I'll head up little to Snowbird. I'll let you know. Mineral basin was open last week but still needs several inches.

                          • I went up to Snowbird yesterday. Both Alta and Snowbird were reporting 14 new inches and based on what I saw that seems about right. I started up the canyon around 9 and there was very little traffic and minimal snow on the road. The new snow is somewhat heavy and they must be concerned about avanlanche danger because none of the lifts opened until about 10, when the opened Wilbere, Gadzoom, and Little Cloud. Gad 2 didn't open until around noon and Peruvian at about 1. Mineral Basin and Road to Provo never opened although they may be open for today/tomorrow depending on how much new snow arrives. (I heard that Alta never opened yesterday but didn't verify) Because of the limited open lifts there were lines all morning long; I can't remember when I have waited that long. By the afternoon things had spread out.

As I mentioned the snow was wet/heavy. Still pretty good skiing but hard work - my quads are feeling it today. Spent most of the day under Gad 2 on STH and up on Little Cloud. Going to the Utah game last night and walking down the stairs to our seats was an adventure.

With more snow expected today/tonight I think that the crowds on Saturday will be big. I know the patrollers are worried about avalanches and the best way to mitigate that is to funnel everyone to the same area so be prepared for longer lines.

                            • This has been a nice storm, but it's kind of depressing to see that the base at most resorts is still less than 50 inches.

                              • I am not a half pipe guy. And I rarely venture into the park except to hit a jump or two and small jibs. But I have mad respect for guys that do. I don't know who watched the X-Games last night but Shaun White put down the greatest run ever in a half pipe scoring a perfect 100. The only one ever given and besting his own record score of 97. The thing is the dude threw this down in his victory lap. He came out and stomped a 94 point run in his first run and nobody could beat it. So when some guys just ride straight down the center he went for it all.
