    Born to Run and Iskiate

I'm in the middle of Born to Run, a very interesting and well-written book by Chris McDougall (not Springsteen) that ParrotHead and the BYU Democrat gave me for Christmas. It's about ultramarathoning and the Tarahumara people in northern Mexico who run unbelievable distances. Seriously great book for anyone, but especially those who run.

The Tarahumara drink iskiate, a beverage made from chia seeds and other stuff, and it supposedly provides a lot of energy and hydration over extended periods. Has anyone here used the stuff? I ordered some of it online, and I may use it during a long run (okay, just 5-6 miles but age-adjusted that's like a marathon for you whippersnappers) Thursday or a long bike ride Saturday. If anyone has used the stuff, I'd be interested in comments. It'll probably be inconsequential, but if it works, I may have the next great MLM opportunity for the board.

my inlaws bought the stuff after reading the book. They bought some non flavored stuff that was bulk.

Might as well go out and get the vibram 5 fingers shoes while you are at it. I tried the drink and didn't think it made much difference, but I would probably have to try it multiple times to make sure.

Of course I am a guy that thinks that chocolate milk is the perfect recovery drink.

You need to throw the iskiate away and go straight for the corn beer. I loved that book.

I loved that book too, especially because I expected to be reading about one tribe (the tarahumara) but ended up reading about another (the crazy ultramarathoners).

BTW, my cousin is an ultramarathoner of Mexican heritage, and he is going to try to live with the tarahumara for a couple of years.

            It's not?

I may be small, but I'm slow.

What? Something for Christmas? I thought I'd finally gotten my way in blackballing you for Christmas for not writing in Palin as President in 2008. Traitor!

Apart from that, there's a guy in my ward who bought the finger shoes and he swears by them. Of course, after dropping $17 in middle school on that Milli Vanilli CD, I too told everyone I knew that they were totally rad! He refers to them as his hobbit shoes. I hate toe socks, so there's no way I'd take it a step further and get the shoes.
I have nothing else to say at this time.
