The key to exercise like running is that you have to ease your way into it. Someone whose body isn't used to it will get sore muscles and blisters and hate it and quit. First, just walk for a mile a day. Then gradually up it to two, then eventually three. Then try jogging for one minute and walking for two. Then jogging a half mile at a time. Then a mile at a time. And so on. It's the fastest way to burn calories; people who run for an hour every other day can eat whatever they want.

      unless you are diabetic

seriously, even then it really expands the diet options.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

TheBYUGal did the 5K last year (she is doing a 1/2 marathon this weekend), and we were thinking that Junior would enjoy the 1/2 mile race. Alas, we totally forgot about the YMCA race until I just read your post.

Tell her good luck with the half. Does she have any time goals, or is it more just to run?

She doesn't have any time goals, but my guess is that she'd be happy with a 9:30 pace.
