Just my 2 cents but if you've had trouble for years getting motivated to stick with a program then I probably wouldn't jump right into something so intense. It will just be miserable. Start with the basics. Continue whatever it was that caused you to lose those 30 pounds and slowly ramp up the intensity of your exercise over the weeks. When you do a little better on those minimums then maybe go for it. But jumping right in seems like a guaranteed fail.

You can modify any exercises. When I started, I couldn't do a pull up, but you can use a chair to make it easier. They'll show you different ways to modify many of the exercises. I modified a lot during the first phase, but you'll get used to it. The only thing is to keep pushing yourself because if you modify a lot, it can be tempting to take it easy.Originally posted by FMCoug View PostSo I got the materials and have been looking through them. Based on the fitness test and minimum requirements to start P90X, I'm starting to re-think this. They have another program called Power 90 that is less intense that they recommend if you don't meet the minimums. Then again, maybe they are just trying to sell multiple programs.
Quick hit on the minimums they recommend for guys:
- 5 inch vertical leap
- 3 pull ups
- 15 push ups
- Toe touch within 6 inches of your toes
- Wall Squat for at least 1 minute
- Dumbbell Curls: 10 reps with 20 lbs
- 25 In and Outs
- 2 and a half minutes of jumping jacks
Thoughts?Not that, sickos.

Good point. For me it hasn't been so much motivation as it has injury. Walking / jogging (not even close to a run)? Tendonitis. Cycling? Broken bike parts because I'm too heavy. Etc. That's when I figured out I had to lose weight 99% with diet at least to start with, which is what I have done. Diet with some extremely easy cardio (i.e. just walking). But I know I feel tons better 40 lbs lighter ... so hopefully exercise this time around I can be successful at it.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostJust my 2 cents but if you've had trouble for years getting motivated to stick with a program then I probably wouldn't jump right into something so intense. But I do think I'm going to with a heavily modifed P90X or even get the Power 90 to start with ... another 30 or 40 lbs and I should be ready to hit something intense.
The best thing to do would be to swim ... but since they sunk the Sea Shepherd I'm afraid to go in the water with no hippies to protect me.

The first time I did P90X I couldn't do three pull ups either. I could do the other stuff, so I figured I was close enough. In the back workouts, I did my one or two pull ups and then did at least 10 reps with the bands as a supplement. Over time my pull up max has increased.Originally posted by nikuman View PostThere's no way I can do three pull ups. This space is available.

I feel like I'm gonna hurl. But I didn't. Does that mean I didn't go quite far enough, or just right? What a beating."It's true that everything happens for a reason. Just remember that sometimes that reason is that you did something really, really, stupid."

Day 1 was the worst for me. Ugh.Originally posted by Mr Incredible View PostDay 1? Chest & Back? Wait until you do Legs & Back. You'll be walking funny for 3 days, minimum.
On a side note, did Legs and Back last week and didn't have to use the chair at all for any of my sets of Pull Ups. Did 8 in each of the 8 sets. Felt like a huge accomplishment. I think on Day 1 I was able to do one set without the chair and the rest I was using it a ton.

That's great. I've done P90X multiple times over the past two years and I'm not quite there yet.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostDay 1 was the worst for me. Ugh.

I have bumped up my schedule - I am starting it tonight. I am going stir-crazy without exercise (my wife says it's like I have postpartum depression) and there is no way I am going to run for the next two months at least. I'm going whole-hog with the nutrition plan and everything. So today is my final unapproved meal - burger, fries and a malt at my favorite burger joint.Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I've been wondering about you - a few years ago when I would run every day, it became so addicting, I looked forward to the endorphins juicing through my brain. Month after month, it was the best. I stopped because being a 1L left no time for it, and it sucked. I've wondered, after your knee blew out and after the marathon ravished you, if things took a downturn.Originally posted by nikuman View PostI have bumped up my schedule - I am starting it tonight. Yeah, I won't lie - I had a rough morning, and told my wife all I needed to cure it was a 10 mile run. But that's not happening for a while.Originally posted by Fiyero View PostI've been wondering about you - a few years ago when I would run every day, it became so addicting, I looked forward to the endorphins juicing through my brain.
