    Turkey Trot roll call

Who's doing some kind of race tomorrow?

I was originally planning on doing a 6 mile race tomorrow but with our recent change in plans I will instead be doing a 5K tomorrow morning in Fresno.

Then its mountain biking up in the Sierras near Oakhurst and Bass Lake on Friday.

I'm in, it's the last race of our running season with my 11 year old. I'm sure he'll smoke me again.

No races but with how clean I've been eating the last few weeks with my diet I will have to take it easy or I will have the turkey trots.

I'm doing something. I haven't decided between the 5k and the 10k. I haven't run much for the past couple months so I'm leaning toward the 5k.

I'm heading out the door with four kids and an SIL to do a 10K, the first time in my life I will have ever run that far. I'm hoping not to be on the evening news.

Good luck, PAC. I'm a little stiff this morning from our half-marathon yesterday afternoon. There were 10 of us running, and only three of us did 13.1 with the rest stopping at the 10K mark. I ran behind everyone to make sure nobody got lost in the desert, and also because I'm not in great shape. I finished in 2:04.

A 15-year-old kid finished first with a time of 1:31 and change. He didn't even train.

What a great day for a race. Sunny and cold (low 40's at race start) just the way I like it. The first mile in our Turkey Trot cost you a good half minute at least because of all the yahoos who try and run too fast (I got passed by a kid in jeans only later to see him doubled over and trying not to heave before the one mile mark). Second mile is the one hill and then it's flat from there. I felt good today.

I survived! It was a lot of fun with several thousand running through downtown San Jose. As previously noted, I won't impress anyone with my time, but maintained a steady 9:01 pace and finished in under 56 minutes. The weather was perfect, clear skies and temps in the high 50s by the finish. I'll post some embarrassing pictures later.

My 11 year old got First Place among the 14 & under age group. We were both stoked.

I guess I never got around to commenting on our race.

It was fairly well-attended, with almost 2,000 people doing the 5K run. It was in Woodward Park in Fresno, which is very hilly and made for a tough course. It was also the site of the California State cross country championships the following Saturday.

I ran with my brother, who at one time was a phenomenal runner, turning in a sub-35 minute 10K just a few years ago. Now he is trying to get back in shape and quit smoking at the same time. He still smoked me, but made it look respectable by staying just within eye-sight and looking back at me frequently. We averaged 7:30/mile, which wasn't great but about what I expected due to not doing a whole lot of speed work in 4 or 5 months.

I had my best time of the season, but no where near my pre knee surgery days. I think those times are long gone. My son didn't get his personal best time. He said he slipped at the turn-around and found the temperature (in the teens) to be the biggest challenge.

I ran in the Cottonwood Heights Thanksgiving day run. They give out good shirts. It is hilly, but I beat my time from 2007, so I was happy. Still waiting for the day I'm officially over the hill and have no chance of setting a new PR.
