Hyper-extended Knee: What to do to fix it..

So, I am not sure what happened but the past two days my left knee is been giving me problems. I cannot straighten it all the way without it hurting a good amount. I know it feels like I hyper-extended it but I do not remember doing it or having it hurt..

However, I just want to know how to fix it. I want to continue with my workouts and I did the elipitcal today, but I cannot run anymore. Nor can I really do much lifting and I am supposed to do legs tonight.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have a good amount of pain near the kneecap (On the left side/interior) when I got to straighten my leg fully(As if I was flexing my quadricep.).

It also has pain when I flex my kneecap up or down if I am standing. And I have pain if I try to put all my weight on that one leg at a full extension while I am standing in place.

When I add pressure to the knee with my fingers I have pain again on the left side and below the kneecap.. But I have to press down a fairly good amount for me to feel the pain. Usually ti is when I am walking around and it straightens to much does the pain come down pretty hard and then I have to favor it more until the pain goes away and I forget about it..

Possible reason why it hurts: I was on the elipitical earlier this week and I decided to run backwards for about 15-20 minutes. This is out of routine then normal and is the only thing I can think of that may have caused this inflammation...

      Thanks for your help..

Probably patellar tendonitis. It's odd that weight bearing would hurt so much though.

You very probably are doing too much. Use your RICE skills for a week and then return at a lesser level. Getting old sucks.

Now the elipitical doesn't bother me when I do it.. It just bothers afterwards...

Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. It's the standard treatment for an overuse injury.
