  • Docs, some pain help

New pain for me that I wanted to chat with you about. Started this week, so I've been trying to take it easier (with limited success).

On my left foot, my arch hurts. Not all the time - just when I am walking or running. I can still run (although I am taking NSAIDs). Preliminary research leads me to believe it is plantar fascitis or similar.

However, this is the foot that I dislocated 9 years ago. I don't know exactly what got damaged but I know that my ligaments were pretty messed up and I sometimes feel pain when doing active stuff (like playing basketball - this is the first time running). FWIW, it doesn't hurt now although it did during my run this morning (not so bad I stopped or couldn't run or anything like that, though).

What makes the inside of your arch hurt?
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

I'm not a doctor (dammit, Jim!), but my wife (a nurse) had this going on in the last couple weeks. She self-diagnosed it as plantar fascitis. We got some of those strips made famous by Kerri Walsh and those seemed to help quite a bit. She was able to complete a 10-mile race last weekend with no pain at a pace much faster than she hoped for.

    EDIT: Kinesio Tape

Well, I'm no doc but...Sure sounds like plantar fasciitis Nik. The telltale signs are that your foot hurts worse when you first get on your feet ie out of bed, up from a chair etc... and that it generally starts to feel better as you run and get warmed up. If it's getting worse as you run it's probably some kind of tendonitis.

Sounds right. It's sore a lot, but definitely worse when I get up or when I have been, say, sitting at my desk for a long time and feels better when I get home from the run. I take it the proper remedy is rest? It's not too painful to keep me from running, just to be clear, and I am thinking about making it through next week if I'm not going to be doing any structural damage (the week after that is a rest week).

What he said. The tell-tale sign of plantar fasciitis is that it screams at you when you first start using it, especially frist thing in the morning. The other sign is that walking up stairs on the balls of your feet hurts substantially as well.
