  • St. George

I'm on an iPod so I'm keeping it brief. Marathon was awesome, St George does it up nice. I kept HR under 160 because I had no idea what I'd have in the tank. Felt really good the whole race and finished in 4:11.30. Goose did awesome and went 3:52. Report to come when we get home.

I did recognize ERcougar in the crowd, that was cool to see a local celebrity.

Way to go you guys! Looking forward to the race reports. Pics of the race shirt and finishers medal are always appreciated.

I don't think I've ever heard on negative review of St George. A guy that I run with gets a couple of sponsor's exemptions and has an 11 year streak going. He wasn't planning on running this year but couldn't bear to break his streak. He decided to run it on Tues after having a longest run of 6 miles over the summer. He finished in 4:10, which is incredible given his lack of training.

Anyway, congrats fellas. Sounds like a great day.

Good job. I'm really happy that you were able to run it after the issues you had. I'm also glad that goose offset your 26.2.

              Steelblue looked solid. Nice job.

We went down to Red Cliffs the night before to camp and went to the finish to watch some friends finish the next morning. I don't know if you saw this, Steel, but there were two dads who pushed their kids in wheelchairs through the whole race. One boy was physically handicapped and the other girl had lost her leg and had obviously recently undergone chemo (I'm guessing osteosarcoma?). Really moving.

Beautiful day for a race though. It seems like it's always perfect weather for this race.

At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Great job guys. St. George marathon is the best. Amazing scenery, especially at sunrise. Almost makes you forget the fact that you're running 26.2 miles!

Here's my race data if you are really bored. I rarely looked at my pace during the race, I went by heart rate. I see now that I slowed a bit at the end even though I felt very good. You have to laugh at my .28 mile final split, I was excited to see that finish line. My final time was 4:11.29 but as usual I forgot to stop the Garmin for a few seconds after the race.

We had a great time at StG this weekend. Its a great course and the weather was amazing. It was cold while we were waiting for the start, but after a couple of miles it was perfect running weather. By the time we finished it was about 70 degrees and sunny with barely any breeze.

While I felt pretty good at the time, the downhill course really beat up my legs. I still can't get out of a chair unassisted and I walk like I've got polio.

I'll type up a report when I get a chance later.

Way to go man. Sorry I couldn't meet up with you guys at some point.

My wife ran a pretty good race. On the drive out to St George she started to get a stomach problem with some diareah associated. This continued on during the race. She started 10 minutes late, cause she was in the porta potty, which is fine because of the chip, but sucks when you have to pass people for the first few miles that have a estimated time of over 5 hours.

She stopped to pee in the bushes once, had to hit the john around mile 13 and then really had to hit one at mile 19. She said the last one was a 5 minute stop, not fun.

The worst part was not the stomach stuff, she hurt her quad this week and really hurt it during the race. She is not really walking now, and is in a lot of pain. Luckily it really didn't affect her much during the actual race other than make it hurt to much to really push it the last few miles.

Ended up 10 minutes off her goal time, but wasn't entirely unhappy with a 3:31 considering everything. St George puts on a good race. I would be tempted to do the 1/2 ironman if they had one next year in the spring.

You should be hobbling fairly well now. I can usually walk down stairs without using the handrail by Wednesday after a Saturday race.

I think St George is putting on an Ironman qualifier next May or April.
