Splash pad in the back yard?

Never wanted to put in a pool due to the expense, liability, and maintenance. (Not to mention winterizing it, and worry that my dog -- and the neighbor's kid -- may drown in it). But these ads for splash pads keep popping up on my internet pages. Does anyone have any experience with a backyard splash pad?

    Pros:
Keep the kids cool without the risk of drowning.
    Easy to winterize
Nice size for a regular back yard-- not too big
If you're not using it temporarily, you can always put a gazebo on top of it.
No skimming leaves out of it- seems easy to clean

    Cons:
If the plumbing breaks, will you have to break up the concrete?
Will the kids tire of it quickly?
    Dog may pee in it

Does anyone own one of these? Thought?

Seems crazy to go to all the expense of putting in something so permanent when it's only marginally better than a sprinkler and a hose.

This. Not even sure it is marginally better. At least with a sprinkler attached to a hose it is in the grass and you can run through safely.

You also get the added bonus of watering your lawn while the kids play. Win-Win.

Well in fairness it looks like the splash pad is a little mini pool as well.
