The house currently has a 75-gallon heater. We could probably get by with 50, but all of the calculations say we should be going with a 75-gallon. How much did the 50 gallon + installation set you back, if you don't mind me asking?

I don't know the specifics of his water heater, but based on average calculations, DS paid between $350 and $400 for installation. That seems high to me, but I don't know, because I have yet to call around getting quotes. That may well be the going rate.

I don't know what you're trying to get at, but my guy was a Mormon, so everything was definitely on the up and up. When he gave us the quote, he explained that they charge a flat $925 fee. Price included new heater, installation, 3 hours of labor, and disposal of our old heater. We didn't shop around as we were trying to get out of town for the holiday and just needed something done. And we didn't care because our home warranty covered most of it.

Here's what I was trying to get at: I have no idea how what the going rate is for installation and disposal of a hot water heater. $300 seems about right for 3 hours of work by a master plumber. It seems high for 1.5 hours by an apprentice.

I was just making a "of course he's honest, he's Mormon!" joke. He said that his rate was $119/hour. Not sure how that compares around the valley. Hopefully, I won't need to know for some time. I also meant to add that we have some immediate hot water dispenser do-hickey attached to our hot water heater that required a little extra attention to the install.

Hot water recirculating pump. Yep, I plan on including one of those, too. Did the price include that pump or did you already have it?

We already had it with the old heater.

donut- get the soft water and WH at the same time. IF you don't get soft water first, then get a WH larger than you anticipate cause that puppy will silt up really fast with untreated hard water. I'm surprised the old one lasted 12 years.
